Welcome Back from your whirlwind adventures. I am writing to ask for your professional advice.
Attached is a proposal that Suzanne and I have spent many weeks pulling together that links all of these "good food" initiatives: the First Lady's official launch last week of the Let's Move! campaign, President Obama's Healthy Food Financing Initiative and the USDA's Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food. We think it is an idea that really will empower and engage families to make better choices at grocery stores and at farmers markets. If we simply send our proposal to Sam Kass, Michele Obama, etc. via mail, it will most likely not be read or even considered. We are also trying to connect with Senator Vilsack and Deputy Secretary Merrigan at the USDA. If you can take a glance at our proposal and believe it is an interesting concept, please let me know if you have any advice on how to get it to the right person(s).
Suzanne and I are very serious and committed to our MarketCook idea, especially as we hear more and more statistics about obesity and America's growing health problems. Based on our experience writing and cooking for Loulies, we have found that people need and want a guide (i.e., food ambassadors) to help them shop and cook good, seasonal and fresh food at the right price. This type of food education is an important part of inspiring better eating and getting families to cook again as a means to better health.
Thank you! - Bettina
