What do you think?  Doug said they are in the initial phases.

Eric, I am doing great. I hope you are doing well too. Thank you for thinking of me on this—it is exactly the kind of thing I would love to do and I would be completely interested in it, as you might imagine. BUT, confidentially, I just (and I mean just, as in last week) committed to opening and being the managing partner of the Chicago office of a growing Florida firm when my Skadden leave of absence ends in June.

Things could happen between now and then. If it wouldn’t put you and Hunter out, I would love to go ahead and we’ll see what happens. If it was more than that and you would want to be pretty sure that I would take it if offered, we’d have to talk first. It really does sound like a great position, but timing is difficult right now and while Skadden could get along without me, I am rather central to this new venture.

Let’s talk when you get a chance. Again, thanks to you and Hunter for keeping me in mind.

Art-

How are you?  Haven’t talked in a while. Hope all is well.

Hunter and I were recently alerted to an opening for a political job at the Department of Homeland Security for the “Chief of Staff to the General Counsel.”  Not to get your hopes up again for a potential job in the Administration and then not have something materialize, but this is exactly the point Hunter and I pointed to where people who committed to the first year or so were going to start leaving and we’ll see some openings.

Sounds like a good job.  The General Counsel manages over 30 lawyers and sounds like you would be at the right hand for most all the legal things that go on at DHS.

Would you be interested in us throwing your name into consideration?  Again, as you saw before, we don’t know how much juice we have to get something done, but this was sent to us by a good friend who is a political appointee at DHS so it may not be an impossibility.

Feel free to call me if you want to discuss.  202-422-8346.

Thoughts?

Best,

Eric
