Hey Guys,
I spoke with Todd and Peter from HNTB this afternoon regarding the attached invitation. It is for a HSR Conference (put on by non-profit: Fundacion Caminos de Hierro) in Cordoba, Spain June 16-18th (HNTB originally got involved through Prointech). Peter has been helpful in the past in contacting speakers for the event and this year is looking to get a representative from Amtrak to participate. Naturally they wanted to start by asking Joe Boardman and then trickle down based on what Joe thought was appropriate. Previous speakers included Karen Ray from the FRA and the Head of California HSR. The conference is technical in nature, but the panels focus almost entirely on policy. HNTB also extended the invitation for Hunter to attend. ALL expenses are included in the deal and they are also looking for a freight participant – although they didn’t ask for help in identifying (assuming they already have someone in mind).
Im assuming the conference will be well attended by Euro HSR companies. Here is the non-profits website: http://www.ffe.es/caminosdehierro/
Lets discuss next week to see if this would be worthwhile and on our approach to passing along to Joe (like how I refer to him like he is my best friend?).

Mike: Here is a description of the conference in Spain and attached is a brochure of the conference. As we discussed, if Hunter could ask Joe Boardman if he would be interested or his delegate. Also, if Hunter could join that would be great.

Dear Peter,
First of all I want to express the gratitude, both personally and in the name of the staff at Fundación Caminos de Hierro, for your invaluable help as the ‘American coordinator’ re last year’s High Speed Conference held in Córdoba. The participation of high-profile people from both State and Federal Administrations was a highlight of the Conference and provided real added-value. Taking this into account, the FCH kindly requests your help again for the forthcoming Córdoba Conference, to be held June 16th, 17th and 18th 2010.
The FCH has in mind scheduling a 3-speaker session called ”High Speed in the US. The American Approach” where you would be making one of the presentations. Therefore, if this theme suits you and should you be available and interested, we would be very grateful if you could suggest two other people willing to speak.
The organization will take care of travel and accomodation expenses per speaker as follows:
· roundtrip plane ticket to Madrid, business class, for one person
· Madrid-Córdoba roundtrip high-speed train tickets, first class, for two people
· accomodation at selected hotel (four nights) for two people.
We would very much welcome your participation in this year’s event.
Kind Regards,
Damián Losa Baur
