Subject: Change request/HNTB's Designer magazine

Hi, Michael:

We want to know if the following change to the third paragraph in Hunter’s column for HNTB’s InTransit is acceptable. The suggested change is highlighted:

A national high-speed rail network could be to our 21st century economy what the Interstate Highway System was to the 20th century economy. Everyone talks about growing the economy. What we really need is to create an economic system in which the middle class HAS THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE A SUSTAINBLE FUTURE. High-speed rail is the key to such a system.

Hunter’s former statement sounded like the middle class was not a major player now. I don’t think he meant to imply that.

I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience as we are going to press on Monday.

Thank you, again, for all your help!

Jody
