I am not pushing it either, but they also have the added advantage of being close to Gillibrand - she was a partner there.

What about David Boies- he is not Texas per se but he is best litigator in country with a very high profile.  I'm not a disinterested party however, I am Of Counsel to Boies Schiller.

A consensus is starting to build from the many responses I’ve gotten from partners.

Babcock could not have been recommended more highly by one partner (see bio: http://www.jw.com/site/jsp/attyinfo.jsp?id=8).  He apparently does a lot of media and celebrity representation, but also business litigation.  He is apparently well-known and well connected.

The following two guys, however, each were recommend by several partners, all of whom spoke very highly of them – and they both appear to be well-known and well-connected as well:

Harry M. Reasoner (bio: http://www.vinson-elkins.com/lawyers/HarryReasoner.aspx)

Stephen D. Susman (bio: http://www.susmangodfrey.com/?id=146)

Susman & Godfrey LLP

Houston, TX  77002-5096

(713) 654-6670 (fax)

ssusman@susmangodfrey.com

One final top recommendation is David Beck of Beck Redden (bio: http://www.brsfirm.com/attorneys/?p=4&/david_beck).  Beck is a past President of the State Bar of Texas, so clearly he is well-known and connected.  He also is a recent past  President of the American College of Trial Lawyers, which is a very big deal, meaning the guy is the real deal when it comes to actually trying cases (Babcock and Reasoner also have been inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers).

From the responses I’ve gotten, you probably cannot go wrong with any of these four.  If these don’t work out, let me know and I’ll circle back with a couple of partners.

Take care.

I don’t know anyone I consider good.  But I’m asking around the firm.  I’ll let you know if I get any good recommendations.

If you guys were going to hire a tough, publicly known litigator in Houston, Texas for a business matter, who would you hire?   I have a client with a large contractual dispute with Houston Metro.

Thanks,

Hilary
