Jim Mennell


Jim Mennell has spent the last eighteen years as a developer, board member, investor and attorney for more than fifty successful and currently operational renewable energy projects in the United States including biomass, gasification, waste-to-energy, ethanol (conventional and cellulosic), and wind energy.  Currently, Jim is President of Renewafuel LLC--a next-generation biomass fuel producer and subsidiary of Cliffs Natural Resources (NYSE: CLF)--where he focuses on strategy, product and facility development, and production and marketing of renewable fuel products.  Jim also is the founder and Managing Partner of the Environmental Law Group in Minneapolis which provides strategic counsel on environmental and energy matters to major commodities and bioenergy companies such as Cargill and POET.  Jim also currently serves on the Board of Directors of biofuels, green software, and wind energy companies.  Prior to forming the Environmental Law Group in 2000, Mennell was a partner at Oppenheimer, Wolff and Donnelly in Minneapolis. 

Jim has authored dozens of articles, regularly speaks on environmental and energy issues, and has taught at several law schools.  Jim also is the lead inventor on two significant patent pending biofuel technologies.  Jim graduated University Scholar (highest honor) from the University of South Dakota, received his Juris Doctor degree, with honors, from Duke University, and also has a Masters Degree in English from Duke University.
