Pls ask Marvin why he needs it in writing beyond assurances he has already received. Does he believe it will create some kind of contract thence can enforce? Is it to promote the dinner? Regardless, he is running the risk of seriously offending the Chinese.

Mr. Fan,

Thank you for your email.  Due to the limited seating availability in the room,  we suggest that only  two people from the Embassy join the dinner including, if possible, the Ambassador and/or Minister, or other appropriate representatives.  We agree with Counselor Zhou that a short welcoming toast and a few remarks…..is  appropriate.  Yes, we would appreciate  the opportunity   to say “thank you” and express our appreciation for being allowed to have the annual Fund dinner at the Chinese Embassy.   It will be very short.  The representative  from the Embassy should speak first.  The costs for dinner and wine are acceptable.

Best wishes.

Marvin

Dear Mr. Lang,

Hope you have just had a wonderful weekend. We are still working hard to coordinate with some other offices inside the Embassy to facilitate the Guardian Investors Dinner. And we have got some more information for your reference.

1, You mentioned in your last email that 2 people from the Embassy will be welcomed to join the dinner. Is it including the Ambassador/Minister or just for extra subordinate officers?

2,  I have discussed with Counselor Zhou about the Speech or Toast issue. He thought that a short welcoming toast and a few remarks about China-US Economic Relations by Ambassador/Minister will be  appropriate. And he just want to know anybody from your side will give any remarks during the dinner? What speaking sequence do you like?

3, We have also consulted with Logistics Office of the Embassy about the cost for the dinner. We have been told that usually the banquet style dinner will cost $80 for food(9 courses including Chinese dessert and fruits) and $10 for wine per person.

4, If you have other requirements, please let me know. So i can report to Counselor Zhou timely.

Best regards,

Mr. Fan,

Thank you for your quick response. If possible, we would appreciate having the Ambassador or Minister of the Chinese Embassy join us for dinner. With respect to either a speech or toast during or before dinner, we should  discuss what is appropriate. Since the number of people that will be attending dinner is limited, we would appreciate having two people from the Embassy. Although Mr. Biden is planning to attend the dinner, he felt that it would be more appropriate if I were the host on behalf of Guardian Realty investors. I have spoken with Mr. Biden  and confirmed that the date of the dinner  is Thursday, April 28th. Unfortunately, his e-mail to Counselor Zhou regarding the date was a typo error.

I look forward to speaking with you at your convenience.

Marvin

Dear Mr. Lang,

Under instruction of Counselor Zhou, I would like to exchange some ideas with you about the Investors and Clients Dinner at our Embassy:

, Are you expecting Ambassador or Minister of the Chinese Embassy to join the dinner? Do you want him to give any speech or toast during or before the dinner? How many Embassy representatives in total are you expecting for the dinner? Will you be the host for the dinner?

2, The dinner room shall be our Banquet room set up with a big round table, which can accommodate around  25 or 26 people. If you have more than that, the table shall be too congested.

3, Mr. Biden just sent an email to Counselor Zhou saying that the dinner date has been confirmed at April 29. Maybe there was some miscommunication, since the date you proposed is April 28. And both Counselor Zhou and I will try our best to confirm the date for the event ASAP.

Look forward to working together with you to facilitate a successful event at the Chinese Embassy.

Best wishes,

Sincerely,

Erwei Fan
