Hello John:

Thanks for coming in to visit us and sharing some of your thoughts on advancing our NEC Vision.

The "Institute" concept is intriguing a we will definitely give it some serious consideration.  Stephen shared the proposal you forwarded to him and the topics of stakeholder coordination and financing are certainly issues of great interest to us which are being studied.

I’m curious also if you have given the environmental review streamlining issue some thought?  This is an area where hands-on practitioners such as HNTB may be able to offer substantive recommendations for improvement.  It’s an area where revised rules and perhaps some legislative initiatives could possibly be achieved in a difficult political climate since they may actually be scored to have favorable budget impacts..

Whatever the topic, the proposed date won’t work for us as we have already scheduled an internal strategic business planning workshop for that day.

Regards, Al

Al and Stephen: Thank you for the opportunity to meet with you today. HNTB is prepared to support you / Amtrak to advance HSR in the NEC. Our offer of the institute to cover various topic areas is sincere and perhaps a great vehicle to sort through stakeholder concerns, funding issues and overall coordination of the many challenges facing the NEC / Amtrak.  Please do not hesitate to call if you have any further questions and we would welcome the opportunity to meet with you to help plan and strategize the potential use of the Institute format.

Take Care, John
