Dear Hunter,
Greetings and I look forward to seeing you at the next Truman Board meeting in May. Very happy that it worked out.
· On my other major Board I wanted to check your interest on possibly being on the host committee for an important event. GFI was started by President Clinton and Karen in 2002. Jose Maria Figures, former President of Costa Rica now Chairs it as President resigned when Secretary Clinton was named. GFI promotes a more equitable and sustainable world for poor people globally. Check out our web site www.globalfairness.org
The award is presented to a person or organization from developing economies that has driven economic change in the area of poverty alleviation. Last November GFI hosted its First Annual Fairness Award at the Kennedy Center for over 2,500 attendees sponsored by the Prince of Wales and NBC. We also launched HRH book on Harmony. Secretary Clinton presented the Fairness Award to Ela Bhatt the founder of SEWA (Self Employed Women’s Association) from Gujarat, India.
This year GFI’s Annual Award will select another recipient and we have asked former President Lulu if he would present the award. This year’s recipient will likely come from Latin America. The Award Ceremony will be held November 16, 2011 in Washington, DC.
We are putting together a host committee in the hopes of raising $100,000 for GFI’s operating budget. We are also looking for several corporate sponsors. Our objective is to raise $200,000 - $250,000. It’s a stretch goal but we are focused.
The host committee will be made up of 10 people active internationally and this year with Brazil as a special focus. We are asking each member to raise $10,000 for the award. We will have sponsorship packages available in the near future. Would you have an interest in serving with Karen and me on our host committee? Other members you know include Jose Luis Manzano, Steve Bennett CFO at Brookings, Judy Lichtman, etc We’d love to have you – and not only that – we need you.
Look forward to hearing from you.
with warmest personal regards,
sally
