This Week's Query

When knowing others are in need, why do we insist on spending money on useless items?

Notes from Sally

This week we will have our spring concert for the 6th grade chorus and the 5/6 orchestra. The program will be held Thursday night at 7:30 and will be repeated during the assembly time on Friday afternoon, beginning at 2:30. Please join us for either show!

Also this week the 8th graders are invited for a celebration dinner on Friday evening at 6:30 in the dining room, along with the 7th graders who have volunteered to help serve for the occasion. This will be followed by a regular 7/8 dance from 7:30 -10:00 PM. Eighth graders are encouraged to dress nicely for the dinner; they may change clothes for the dance.

The last day for 7/8 PE is this Thursday. Students should clean out their lockers, bring home all belongings, including their locks, and check the PE lost and found for missing items. 5/6 will have PE through Wednesday June 8th.

Other coming events: the 7/8 talent show will be held in the theater on Monday June 6th from 2:00 – 3:20, and the 5/6 track meet will be held that same day from 9 AM – 12:30. (Rain date is Tuesday) Parents are welcome for either event!

Middle School students with 4th grade siblings who wish to attend the Lower School graduation event on June 9th are welcome to do that; please coordinate arrangements with the homeroom teacher or advisor.

Just a reminder that students will turn in all library books, laptops, and hardcover texts over the next two weeks.

I am delighted to announce that Michelle Parker will be continuing as the full-time counselor in the Middle School next year. Other hiring decisions should be finalized soon and will be announced in the summer letter.

The Middle School Office will be open all summer, although we will take turns getting some vacation days in. Anne Kennedy and Michelle Parker do not work full time in the summer but will answer messages and email periodically. Always contact the main office number if you need something right away.

Congratulations to Mrs. Carneal’s sixth grade math classes for their leadership in fundraising efforts for Japan Earthquake Relief. They raised $380 to send to Kesunumma, a town hard-hit by the earthquake and tsunami where 8th grade science teacher Dave Wood spent time last summer.

I’ll hope to see you at the reception for Carlene on Thursday after school.

Ice Cream Social for Fifth and Sixth Grade Families

Fifth and Sixth Grade Families - Please join us for an Ice Cream Social on Sunday, June 5th from 2:00-4:00 in the Wetland Gardens. This will be a wonderful opportunity to relax with current and new families. We are also looking for children to volunteer to lead the new students on a modified version of the beloved scavenger hunt! Please e-mail Andrea Miano (andrea.miano@gmail.com) or Sung Hee Kim (sungheekim@comcast.net) if your child is interested. We look forward to seeing you.

Ice Cream Social Volunteers Needed

ICE CREAM SOCIAL on Wed June 8th after school!! We need volunteers to help us dish out ice cream right after school. The PA will be giving out ice cream cones to the entire Middle School at 3:20 on the last Wednesday of school. We need volunteers to give us a hand--grade reps and room parents, as well as anyone who just wants to help out. Plan on gathering around 3 or so behind the wetlands.
Please email Gita (gitasvh@gmail.com) or Belinda (thenixons97@yahoo.com) if you can help out. If you can bring a scoop from home, that will also be a great and needed help.
