I was telling Devon that I think we should consider drafting an op-ed in which I "explain" why I felt it important to become an independent director of Burisma. He said you all spoke about the same idea on the call. I know that it is debatable whether drawing further attention to myself right now is a good idea, but on balance I think it's important to set the record straight and provide a legitimate rationale for my taking on this role. I think that the piece should strive to convey a few key messages- 1- what is the role of an independent director- I am not an equity stake holder- I am not an employee of the company. 2- the importance of corporate responsibility and a "modern/ western" corporate structure in rebuilding Ukraine's economy. I believe this is as important to rebuilding a sustainable civil society in Ukraine as rebuilding their government. 3- Energy should not be used as a weapon, but Ukraine should be allowed to defend itself against eastern aggression by developing its own sources of clean natural gas. 4- the only people who should be concerned with our attempt to help develop a transparent and technically capable energy sector in Ukraine are those that profit from the status quo.
