Subject: Hello from Belgrade

‎Dear President Kwasniewski,

Once again, it was truly great meeting you in Brussels a few weeks ago.‎ I hope all is well on your side.

Since then, we've had an enormously busy period of travel and hosted a number of events, including the first Climate Change and Green Economy ‎conference in our region and the world premiere launch of the new book by Jeff Sachs "The Age of Sustainable Development" (in Serbian - its English version will come out only in March 2015, believe it or not).

I hope you haven't forgotten about the deadline of December 1st, 2014, for your essay for the next issue of our thinktank's magazine "Horizons - Journal of International Relations and Sustainable Development", whose leading theme is Russia-West relations.

We'd like to make yours the head section's main piece, next to Sergey Lavrov's. They will be followed by essays from Joseph Nye, Wolfgang Ischinger,Tierry de Montbrial, Mario Monti, Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg, Lamberto Zannier and Dmitry Trenin, amongst others.

In other sections we're featuring essays from UNDP Administrator Hellen Clark, Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, South Africa's President Jacob Zuma, Seychelles' President John Michel, Malaysia's and ‎Singapore's Foreign Ministers Anifah Aman and K Shanmugam, Lee Kuan Yew School's Dean Kishore Mahbubani...

Standard Horizons essays are 4-5,000 words long, and‎ the issue is supposed to go to print within the next couple of weeks. Therefore, we're eager to start processing your text‎ as soon as possible. I'm copying to this message Mr. Damjan Krnjevic, Horizons Editor, who stands ready to address all practical considerations.

We're also planning to organize a panel debate on Russia - West relations‎, to accompany the issue's launch.

It will be held on February 18th at 6.30pm at the Harvard Club of New York. It would be a Davos-style discussion, moderated by myself. We'd be truly delighted if your schedule is such that you could honor us with your participation.

Other panelists would be Columbia Professor Jeffrey Sachs, Harvard Professor Joseph Nye, former Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini and Russian Ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin.

In anticipation of your essay, and hoping to see you in New York in February,

Yours truly,

Vuk Jeremic
President of CIRSD
Former President of UN General Assembly and Serbian Foreign Minister
