The economy added 304,000 jobs in January, the Labor Department reported Friday, up from a revised 222,000 in December.
Average hourly private-sector earnings were up 3.2 percent over the previous year, the same as in December. The unemployment rate was 4 percent, up from 3.9 percent in December.
