Subject: DuCool & AquaSciences
From a "POLICY"
perspective, Dan Forkosh, President & CEO (& inventor) of DuCool (a
company that has incorporated in DE) said that he would like to see a
government entity take on the recognition of SHR (Sensible Heat Ratio) as an
air conditioning standard because it includes energy efficiency tied to
removing moisture from the air (humidity) as well as changes in
temperature. The current SEER energy rating (Seasonal Energy Efficiency
Ratio) which ONLY measures changes in temperature.
Here is a link to their web
site that illustrates the concept:
http://www.ducool.com/HTMLs/article.aspx?C2004=12192&BSP=12158
The DuCool products are
capable of controlling any Sensible Heat Ratio (SHR) required - latent only,
sensible only, or any ratio between the two.
The SHR is automatically set
by the DuCool Remot Control Monitoring System (RCMS), which is based on
customer's chosen set points.
Their partner company, Aqua
Sciences, uses the DuCool technology in their equipment. The following
link takes you to their web site/photographs of the Aqua Sciences machine in
Haiti and its positive effect on the lives of patients at the main hospital in
Port-au-Prince. www.AquaSciences.com
ACTION ITEMS:
I offered 2 exhibit hall
passes to Dan + DuCool for BIO2010 conference to demonstrate tangible evidence
of DE's commitment. We are competing with Michigan + California
I have requested a copy of
their business plan as well as an executive summary of MatlinPatterson's
research/due diligence that they used to justify their $35M investment in the
company.
They will need min 100,000 sq
ft of space and Dan Forkosh will be sending his brother and the plant manager
over from Israel to tour potential sites.
David Mathe` from
International Trade Office will be visiting Israel next week and Dan has agreed
to make arrangement for David to tour their current facility in Kibbutz,
Israel.
BACKGROUND:
Technology created in Israel
but not in an incubator, which John Pastor taught me today is impt because
Israel CONTROLS any technology that is grown within one of their incubators
DuCool's technology was used
by AquaSciences to make pure water from air in Haiti! They essentially
flow air across sea salt.
They are waiting for a large
order which will result in demand for new assembly facility TODAY!
MatlinPatterson invested $35M and stress that they did extensive due diligence
(this is NOT pre-revenue or early venture!). DuCool has been in business for 6
years
Assembly/manufacturing will
create 300-500 direct jobs and thousands of indirect per MatlinPatterson
analysis and will be a $7B market with 2 year pay back on retrofit and 1-3
month pay back on new construction
They will need min 100,000 sq
ft of space and Dan Forkosh will be sending his brother and the plant manager
over from Israel to tour potential sites.
