Anyone in the room that evening couldnt help but reflect on the last two years and Teds unique and compelling term. In a recent *Philadelphia Inquirer *column, Michael Smerconish described Ted and his two years in office: "...he established himself as one of the Senates most substantive, earnest, and irascible members." Ted worked hard to break up the "too big to fail" banks and end the destabilizing practice of of high frequency trading. He also advocated for a renewed emphasis on science and innovation to meet the challenges of a competitive global economy. And every week, since May 2009,Ted took to the Senate floor to honor a different federal employee -- 100 in all -- for his/her lifelong and unsung dedication to public service. A member of the Foreign Relations and Armed Services Committees, Ted focused closely on Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as the Middle East peace process, traveling extensively throughout these regions. He also worked to expand international freedom of the press, establishing and co-chairing the Global Internet Freedom Caucus. Now, Ted has assumed a new role as Chairman of the Congressional Oversight Panel. The Congressional Oversight Panel issues monthly reports that oversee Treasurys administration of the TARP, assess the impact of spending to stabilize the economy, evaluate market transparency, monitor efforts to prevent foreclosures, and help to ensure that Treasury is acting in the best interest of the American people. We appreciate that you and your friends care about the issues and priorities that Ted stood for and promoted in the Senate. Please join "Friends of Ted Kaufman" [link 2] on Facebookto stay up to speed on his issues, as well as share your ideas and opinions with each other. ---------------------- footnotes ---------------------- [link 1] http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Friends-of-Ted-Kaufman/154101977959621 [link 2] http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Friends-of-Ted-Kaufman/154101977959621 Unsubscribe: http://kaufman.ie0.org/mail/util.cfm?mailaction=unsubscribe&gpiv=2100066221.181502.203&gen=
