Hi all: Peggy & I are so sorry to send this out again. Apparently anyone who has a MAC was able to get the entire email, but those of us on PCs were only getting a partial email. So therefore, I am sending this out to PC users - We are sorry for the technology glitch - we'll get our IT people (hahaha) to work on this immediately! We have a few reminders for the coming week and some important information specific to 4X for the weeks ahead. There is a lot of information here, but it is important that you read through all of it. Thanks very much. First, this week: THE BOOK FAIR IS COMING! Come to the Lower School Book Fair on November 13 at Politics and Prose. Proceeds from the event support the LS Parents Association. This year's Book Fair is one day only, 9 AM through 10 PM. At 10:30 AM, we are thrilled to feature a children's book reading by Lower School librarian Angela Smith. When you use a Book Fair coupon, available at each cash register that day, 20 percent of your purchase total will be donated to the LS PA. Please ask for the coupon at the time of purchase so that your contributions can be counted! Details are attached. Can't make it to the Book Fair? Use our Personal Shopper Service! For details, contact ericka.markman@gmail.com <mailto:ericka.markman@gmail.com> , wwwevelyn@comcast.net <mailto:wwwevelyn@comcast.net> or ginaskim@yahoo.com <mailto:ginaskim@yahoo.com> . MEETING FOR WORSHIP REMINDER ATTENDING MEETING FOR WORSHIP WITH YOUR CHILD You are always welcome to join your child for Meeting for Worship on Tuesdays from 1:30-1:50 PM. ******************** IMPORTANT 4X NEWS And now some important information for the weeks ahead. 1.On Friday, November 19 from 1:00 - 2:30, 4x and grade 3 will make 50 pans of delicious stuffing for Martha's Table's Thanksgiving dinner. We will need 6 to 8 parent volunteers to help us with this rewarding community service project. Parent helpers should wear clothing that can get messy and report to the Multi - Purpose room on Friday, Nov. 19 at 1 pm for set up. Please let us know if you can help by responding to this e-mail. 2 . Tuesday, November 30th, 4x plans a trip to the National Zoo to observe Asian animals in connection with our December Asian Animal Research Project. We plan to all travel to the National Zoo by school bus. We will leave school at 9:00 am and will return by 1:00 for afternoon classes. At the zoo we will break into small groups to observe and to study the animals. Parents and students should plan to dress warmly for rain or cold weather and pack a picnic lunch (Please no glass bottles.) We will need 6 parents to chaperone and help us to lead small groups at the zoo. Please respond to this e-mail if you can help. 3.On Wednesday, December 8, 4x will cut veggies for Martha's Table with grade 2. We will be confirming with the parents who previously volunteered to help prep veggies from 8:30 to 9:00 am. 4. Our Winter Holiday Program Performance ( grades 2 -4) is scheduled for Friday, December 10th from 9:00 to 10:00. The Holiday Performance will be followed by a party reception for 4x students, parents, relatives and caregivers in the 4x classroom. We will need contributions of treats and drinks for our party for guests and students. Estee and I will follow up to solicit volunteers (likely from the first half of the alphabet). 5. Students will take ERB standard tests in November and December. One or two tests will be given over a two and a half week period. We do not want to stress students over these tests and we always plan a fun ERB party when tests are all completed. Homework assignments will be a bit lighter on test days and students should plan to arrive at school on time, eat breakfast and get enough rest. It is difficult to make up missed tests, so please try not to schedule outside appointments during the school day during testing times. For your information and planning please see our tentative ERB test schedule below. We may have to make some adjustments as we move forward. 2010 4x ERB SCHEDULE Nov. 29 ( Monday) - Practice math test Nov. 30 ( Tuesday) - 4x class trip to National Zoo Dec 1 ( Wednesday) Practice Reading and Writing Tests Dec. 2 ( Thursday) Auditory Comprehension ( 40 - 60 minutes) Dec. 3 (Friday) Verbal Reasoning ( 35 minutes) Dec. 6 ( Monday) Reading Comprehension ( 40 minutes) Dec. 7 ( Tuesday ) Quantitative Reasoning ( 45 minutes) Dec. 8 ( Wednesday) Writing Concepts and Skills ( 45 minutes) Dec. 9 and 10 - LS Holiday Programs - no testing Dec. 13 ( Monday) Part 1 Math ( 40 minutes) Dec. 14 ( Tuesday) Part 2 Math ( 40 minutes) Dec. 15 ( Wednesday) Reading for Understanding - Constructed Response ( 30 minutes) Dec. 16 ( Thursday) Math Constructed Response ( 35 minutes) Dec. 17 ( Thursday) Possible Test Make Up Day Dec. 18 ( Friday) ERB 4x Party!!!!!
