San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris (D) and Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley (R) are locked in a tight battle and a final answer may still be weeks out. As of 9 am this morning, the Secretary of State of California listed that the 40,000 vote lead that Kamala Harris had held onto since the election had been overtaken by her opponent, Steve Cooley. Cooley currently has 46.1% of the vote to Harris’s 45.5%, a difference of just over 43,000 votes in a race where over 8 million were cast. Though all 56 counties have at least partially reported their totals, only 8 have completed counting a week out, leaving up to 2.12 million votes uncounted, most in the form of hand written absentee and provisional ballots. Counties have until Dec. 3 to certify their results and submit them to the Secretary of State meaning an answer may still be long off. Both Harris and Cooley have declared victory in the tight battle, as the results have swung in both of their favors since Election Day. With Democratic counties like Los Angeles and Republican leaning counties like San Diego both still counting the results could turn either way. Both campaigns are gearing up for a recount if necessary, but until then wait on slow hand counting process across the state. It may be weeks before a victor is determined. We will continue to bring you updates as we get them. _Upcoming Events_ _Registration now open!_ _2010 DAGA Holiday Party _ _December 8, 2010_ _6:00 – 8:00 PM_ _Founding Farmers_ 1924 Pennsylvania Ave, NW Washington, DC DAGA will host our final event of 2010 at our Holiday Party on December 8.
