To subscribe, please sign up here (http://bit.ly/ecs1s?utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=f61c86b743-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_01_31&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-f61c86b743-145367789) . ** Iranian Missile Test ------------------------------------------------------------ Iran’s foreign minister has refused to confirm that the country conducted a missile test, saying Iran’s missile program is not part of a 2015 nuclear deal between his country and world powers, as CBS News reports (http://www.cbsnews.com/news/iran-ballistic-missile-test-nuclear-deal-security-council-russia/?utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=f61c86b743-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_01_31&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-f61c86b743-145367789) . And, as the AP reports (https://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2017/01/31/world/ap-un-united-nations-security-council.html?_r=0&utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=f61c86b743-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_01_31&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-f61c86b743-145367789) , US ambassador Nikki Haley says the world should be "alarmed" at the latest Iranian ballistic missile test and the UN Security Council should take action. Haley said today that Iran is "being naive" by thinking the US and others accept its contention that it has no intention of attacking any country. Dive Deeper: For a closer look at Iran’s missile capabilities, visit the CSIS Missile Defense Project’s interactive micro-website, “Missile Threat (https://missilethreat.csis.org/country/iran/?utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=f61c86b743-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_01_31&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-f61c86b743-145367789) .” ** China's Second Aircraft Carrier ------------------------------------------------------------ China's second aircraft carrier is "taking shape" after two years and nine months of construction, local media reported, a move likely to further unnerve Taiwan and other neighbors about Beijing's growing military assertiveness. Construction of the Shandong, named after a province on China's east coast, began in 2014, the APP of Shandong television and radio said in a report, as Reuters reports (http://www.reuters.com/article/us-china-defense-aircraft-carrier-idUSKBN15F0CC?utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=f61c86b743-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_01_31&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-f61c86b743-145367789) . Pavy. ** Smiles ------------------------------------------------------------ Most people think Stephen Stills’ best band was Crosby, Stills and Nash (and sometimes Young.) Of course they are correct. But Stills once had a band that was a close second, and it’s not Buffalo Springfield. It’s Stills’ short lived outfit Manassas. If you don’t own or stream a copy of the bands’ eponymous 1972 album, do yourself a favor and get it. The band Manassas is chock full of amazing musicians. Dallas Taylor of CSN on drums, Chris Hillman of Flying Burrito Brothers on guitar and vocals, the sublime Al Perkins on pedal steel and the memorable Joe Lala on percussion. With Stills at the helm, Manassas simply created some of the best rock and roll ever made. The sprawling double album is a masterpiece. I just became aware of a set of video featuring Manassas performing live on German television. If you want to see a group that could really play music live, that didn’t need to take advantage of studio technology to produce incredible music, check this out (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HggVUWp0-M8&utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=f61c86b743-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_01_31&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-f61c86b743-145367789) . I guarantee you will be smiling. (Parker, I can’t wait to hear from you on this one my friend.) ** Feedback ------------------------------------------------------------ I always welcome and benefit from your feedback.
