Dear Families,
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. It was great to spend the time with my family and completely relax. :)
Lisa and David Blatt, parents of Daniel Blatt, have generously arranged for the class to visit the Supreme Court to hear an argument and to meet Justice Kagen. This is an amazing opportunity for our students. The fieldtrip will be on Monday, December 6th. Because we need to arrive at the building by 9:00 am we will leave school immediately after silence at 8:05 am. I have chartered a private bus. It will be important for students to arrive to school on time so that they can unpack and settle in before our departure.
Over the next few days I will work with the class to prepare them for the trip by giving them background information about the Court and the case we will watch. I will also review the expectations for behavior on a fieldtrip. The class has gone on a fieldtrip already this year and their behavior was commendable. For this fieldtrip the expectations will be the same (be conscious  and courteous to the people around you, no horseplay, use appropriate volume, listen to and follow directions from chaperones) with the additional rule that students may not talk during the argument. Students should also wear appropriate clothing. I will discuss these expectations with the class and I would greatly appreciate it if you would review them at home as well.
Students will have a hard copy of the permission slip this afternoon. I am also attaching a copy. Please sign and return the permission slip by Tuesday, November 30th.
