US Holiday Gift Giving Benefitting The Rosemount Center and Martha's Table : Monday, November 29 - Friday, December 10. While we gather together with our loved ones over the Holidays and give thanks for the bountifulness of our lives, please consider participating in our annual SFS ALL SCHOOL HOLIDAY GIFT GIVING by donating a gift to benefit a child, age infant - 18. Gifts donated at the US will benefit participants at two agencies with which we have long-term partnerships; Martha's Table on 14th Street and the Rosemount Center in Mount Pleasant. HOW IT WORKS: * Place gifts, unwrapped in a large bag. Please include wrapping paper. * Drop-off sites : under the holiday tree in the US Library or Mr. Connell's office - Room 222. * Collection period : Monday, November 29th - Friday, December 10th. GIFT SUGGESTIONS: Anything your child would enjoy receiving. Books are highly valued, board games, Legos, African American and Latina dolls, crafts kits. Gift certificates help with shopping for teens. Suggested stores for gift certificates are Target, Old Navy (shops in walking/ metro distance of recipients) and diapers. PLEASE NO action figures that carry weapons. OUR PARTNERS: Rosemount Center - Located in Mount Pleasant, Rosemount provides a range of services, day care, bilingual instruction, home visits, physical and occupational therapy. SFS US students partner with the Rosemount Center, providing support in the classrooms at this bilingual daycare center. Martha's Table - Your participation in Holiday Gift Giving supports families that participate in Martha's Table Children Youth and Family Learning Programs. The program serves hundreds of children from the 14th street corridor and surrounding neighborhoods in D.C. For many years, all divisions of Sidwell Friends have been involved in the work of Martha's Table. VOLUNTEER DRIVERS NEEDED to deliver the gifts on December 10. For more information and to volunteer, please contact June Das Gupta at junedasgupta@msn.com<mailto:junedasgupta@msn.com> Community Service Newsletter Please see the November edition of the Community Service Newsletter in the attached file. The monthly edition of the CS Newsletter is posted on the school website on the Community Service page, and is also published in the Wednesday Letter at the beginning of each month. Previous editions of the CS Newsletter may also be found on the Community Service page on the website. The newsletter contains a wealth of information about US Community Service whether it is an ongoing, upcoming or past event. We encourage you to take a few minutes to read the newsletter. Fruit Flies Sales - Extended to November 23! Enjoy fresh-off-the-tree oranges, grapefruit, and tangelos for family and friends during the holidays-while your purchases fund PA-supported student activities at the Upper School. Order 10 lb. and 20 lb. cartons of citrus at our online ordering page, by clicking here<https://www.fruitorder.com/orderFundraising_pre4.asp?OrgId=556011>. The fruit will be trucked directly from Florida for pickup on Dec. 11. The Fruit Flies is also a way to give to local people in need. You may donate fruit purchases to Martha's Table or S.O.M.E. by writing your request in the NOTES section of the payment page. Our Fruit Fly volunteers will deliver your gift directly to the agency. There is also a mail option for recipients who are not in DC. (Please note: These orders will ship after the trucked orders are filled, so the fruit may arrive too late for college students who leave campus for winter break; mail may not be a good method for those recipients.) The citrus sale is the PA's only annual fundraiser to support Upper School student activities. So please, join in, and be generous, and get ready to enjoy a juicy reward! US Fall Play - "The Real Inspector Hound" by Tom Stoppard If you haven't got a chance in the last two days to see this show, you definitely don't want to miss this wonderful play today, Sunday, November 21, 2010 at 2:30 pm. Rave reviews greeted this masterpiece of farce when it was revived in London. Feuding theater critics Moon and Birdboot, the first a pompous and vindictive second stringer and the second a fusty philanderer, are swept into the "whodunnit" they are viewing. As mists rise about isolated Muldoon Manor in this hilarious spoof of Agatha Christie type melodramas, the critics become dangerously implicated in the lethal activities of an "escaped madman." Sidwell Friends School ~ Kogod Center for the Arts ~ Mary Ellen Caplin Theater 3825 Wisconsin Avenue, NW ~ Washington, DC 20016 Tickets: $8/adults, $3/non-SFS students, FREE/SFS students Donna, Karen, Tanya, Yingjie
