While the Obamas started civilian life with a much-photographed vacation

Joe Biden hit the ground running. In the weeks following Donald Trump's
inauguration

the former vice president has started to announce his plans post-White
House, and let's just say he's going to be busy.

"The problem we have is not figuring out what he is going to do, but
figuring out what he's not going to do," Biden's former aide Senator Ted
Kaufman *told the **New York Times*
<https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/19/us/politics/joe-biden-delaware.html?_r=0>
of his friend's ambition. "There's just no way he's going to be able to do
not just all the things that he wants to do but all the things that he
really wants to do."

Most recently, the former vice president announced that he would be taking a
position
<http://www.upenn.edu/spotlights/vice-president-joe-biden-lead-penn-biden-center-diplomacy-and-global-engagement>
with the University of Pennsylvania. Biden will lead the Penn Biden Center
for Diplomacy and Global Engagement, a new center based in D.C. that will
focus on "diplomacy, foreign policy, and national security." Biden will
also have an office on the school's Philadelphia campus.

"The Penn Biden Center and I will be engaging with Penn's wonderful
students while partnering with its eminent faculty and global centers to
convene world leaders, develop and advance smart policy, and impact the
national debate about how America can continue to lead in the 21st
Century," Biden said in a statement.

He also has a new position
<http://www.udel.edu/udaily/2017/february/biden-institute/> at the
University of Delaware. At his alma mater, he will serve as the founding
chairman of the Biden Institute, "a new research and policy center focused
on developing public policy solutions on issues ranging from economic
reform and environmental sustainability to civil rights, criminal justice,
women's rights and more."

Once again, he plans to split his time between D.C. and Delaware. In
January, *the **New York Times** reported*
<https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/19/us/politics/joe-biden-delaware.html?_r=0>
that "the couple intend to find a small house in Washington near their
friends Barack and Michelle Obama so that Dr. Biden can continue teaching
English at a community college in Northern Virginia."

One can only assume that he plans to commute via Amtrak.

But the project that is perhaps closest to the vice president's heart is
the launch of *the Biden Foundation*
<https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/former-vice-president-biden-to-launch-foundation/2017/01/31/6f9ad434-e803-11e6-bf6f-301b6b443624_story.html?utm_term=.3dede916ed39>,
a nonprofit focused on a variety of issues Biden feels passionate about
including supporting military families, ending violence against women and
finding a cure for cancer.

"I'm more optimistic than I've ever been since I've been in public life,"
Biden said in the organization's launch video. "As long as we have a breath
in this we're going to be working on it."

*According to **The Hollywood Reporter*
<http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/joe-biden-signs-caa-all-areas-974242>,
the former vice president and his wife Jill Biden have both signed with
Creative Artists Agency (CAA), a talent and sports agency based in Los
Angeles, to support their work moving forward.

"Jill and I remain more dedicated than ever to addressing the critical
issues of the day, and we see in CAA a shared passion and shared values
that are at the core of our family and our goals," Biden said in a
statement. "We look forward to leveraging their expertise, across many
fields, as part of our team."

CAA president Richard Lovett added, "As a company, and as individuals, we
are deeply honored and excited to work with Vice President Biden and Dr.
Biden to advance their vital efforts. The Bidens have long led with
integrity, authenticity, and compassion. Their extraordinary commitment to
lifting people up is not only a great inspiration to us personally but a
tremendous foundation upon which they will build an unprecedented
post-White House career."

"I want him to slow down," Kaufman told the *Times*, "and Hunter [Biden's
son] wants him to make money, and he's not really listening to either of
us."

"He's now back to being his own boss again," Kaufman continued. "He's going
to stay in public service, and he's going to do it big time and in a big
way. Because that's Joe."
