Members of the Boards, Two weeks ago, on Wednesday, January 25th, President Trump launched his first executive order on immigration; he followed that action up two days later, on Friday, January 27th, with the now-infamous executive order targeting refugees and those of heritage from seven Muslim-majority countries. I'm proud to say that in those two weeks, Truman has been hard at work on this front. We hit the ground running with a statement <http://trumanproject.org/home/doctrine-blog/truman-project-statement-on-published-and-anticipated-executive-orders/> released that Wednesday and full message guidance sent out as soon as the actual EO was signed on Friday. Over the weekend, our members went out to airports across the country as lawyers, translators and citizens to help those directly impacted and show solidarity with the protests. Veterans in particular had an outsized impact on public perception of both the ban and the airport protests. Chapters took action at the local level, with San Diego <http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sd-me-security-trump-20170127-story.html> and San Francisco <http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/SF-Resistance-to-Trumps-Immigration-Order-Grows-412227533.html> holding press conferences on Friday and Monday, and other Chapters—including Los Angeles, Texas, Atlanta, and Philadelphia—releasing statements and letters to the press in the back half of the week and over the weekend. And we held major calls on Monday and Tuesday, first to announce to press a letter <https://cdn.americanprogress.org/content/uploads/sites/2/2017/01/30141336/Honorourpromise-2.pdf> signed by more than 300 veterans against the ban, and then to provide background to staff on the Hill about the security implications of the EO. We followed that up by providing two witnesses, myself included, to testify at a forum <http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/democrats-khizr-khan-trump-executive-order_us_5893a37ae4b09bd304ba6911> held by Leader Pelosi and House Democrats on Thursday. On top of all that, we drummed up an enormous media presence. The press call and various Chapter activities resulted in mentions in national, international, and local markets in 48 states and 12 countries. Members have so far had op-eds published in national outlets as well as local papers in 12 states as diverse as Montana <http://mtstandard.com/news/opinion/guest/letter-to-my-iraqi-interpreter/article_27be04b1-e061-5a06-a528-4ec59bca7ff5.html> and Massachusetts <http://www.bostonherald.com/opinion/op_ed/2017/02/kistner_travel_ban_betrays_american_values>. And I personally had two high profile media appearances--one on MSNBC <https://twitter.com/TrumanProject/status/825877222326087680>, and another debating Tucker Carlson at length on Fox News (video in two <http://app.criticalmention.com/app/#clip/view/25963202?token=2f0caad3-6810-422f-afc4-93191f69d044> parts <http://app.criticalmention.com/app/#clip/view/25963205?token=2f0caad3-6810-422f-afc4-93191f69d044>)—and signing on to another major letter covered by Politico <http://www.politico.com/story/2017/01/trump-executive-order-refugees-immigrants-reversal-urged-234378> . I'm happy to provide a more comprehensive readout of all the individual pieces of work, but I just wanted to share with you how proud I am of the incredible volume of work we’ve done so far. These are the opening salvos in a longer fight, but I have every confidence that with this community’s efforts and your support, we can keep advocating for the values that make this country strong. Very Respectfully, Michael Breen -- *Michael Breen*President & CEO Truman Center for National Policy | Truman National Security Project Office: 202.216.9723 x2325 Cell: 603.828.9550 @TrumanProject | @TrumanCenter www.TrumanProject.org | w <http://www.trumanproject.org>ww.TrumanCenter.org -- *Save the Date:* TruCon 2017 will be June 23-25 in Washington, DC
