I think the paper is excellent. In terms of issues - you might want to have someone at the school do a research job on issues the Vice President has made a priority over the years. Off the top of my head I would sayStopping violence against women, protecting children, the middle class, criminal justice, equality and social justice, civil rights, clean energy/climate/Environment, infrastructure, skills/retraining...Jill has focused on community colleges and military colleges.Sent from Xfinity Connect Mobile App------ Original Message ------From: Jeffrey Wade GarlandTo: Eric Schwerin, Alexander S. In general, I’d prefer to have the calls in the morning. If we get a quick consensus, we can move the time before next week. 10:00 AM would be great. In terms of the paper Alan sent, I’d encourage everyone to think in terms of Dr. Assanis presenting this type of information to the Vice President. What is most compelling? What connects to the VP’s vision? Does the list of priorities listed on the first page, such as “a focus on ‘smart cities’ and global urbanization,’' make sense? What should the priorities be? I spent a little time going through the websites for various schools of public policy just to get a sense of the vocabulary and organization. I found the Ford School at Michigan and Sanford School at Duke (kudos to Senator Kaufman!) to have the most dynamic sites. Also looked at Harvard Kennedy, Stanford, and Indiana so far. Some are more about recruiting students than others. But all try to tell the story of what they do. Enjoy the week. And I know Ted had a conflict as well. Considering we had our last call on Friday and it was a holiday weekend which didn't enable us to get a lot of the answers we needed to get perhaps we kick off the weekly calls next Wednesday? Otherwise, it looks like you may only have Hunter on the call and I don't think he'll have any new information to share. Top on our list is to get you feedback on the Biden School memo you sent around and more specific numbers on staffing. Thanks for the memo - it was incredibly thorough. If we have answers to any of those things before next Wednesday we'll make sure to get them to you prior to the call. Also, one final suggestion after discussing this on our end, we may want to consider moving the time of these calls to either earlier in the morning - say 10am - or later in the day - say 4pm? Given our schedules I think we can maximize participation that way. But if 12:30 is most convenient for you all - we'll make that work. Thanks! Let us know your thoughts on going through with the call tomorrow or just wait until next week. Best, Eric Eric D.
