I don't know if you contacted a lawyer but I spoke to mine and her firm can do a "collaborative separation." I think it would be easiest and less expensive way to go. Below is email response from Rebekah Sullivan. Please respond and let me know what you want to do. You've told me numerous times to get a lawyer and I did. This way you don't have to hide anything from me - this is what you've been asking for. Please, let me know.

“Collaborative” is a process, it is a way of talking about things and going about things that can be used for divorce but it can also be applied to legal separation. I think you and I discussed, but in DC there is not much difference between a Legal Separation and an Absolute Divorce. The main difference is that you can remarry with an Absolute Divorce and cannot remarry with a Legal Separation. Other things – support, property division, etc. – are similar between the two. And if you get a Legal Separation, you can augment it to an Absolute Divorce with relative simplicity.

If you choose to pursue the collaborative process, I will set you up with my colleague, Theresa Mihalik. I can stay in to assist, but she would be the primary attorney since I am not collaboratively trained.
