Two years ago, the country and the world was energized by the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Every corner of the United States, from the Greater Philadelphia area to Boston, Hawaii, and all points in between joined the viral phenomenon to fund ALS research and patient care.
Today we are announcing a bold new challenge to fight ALS – Larry Kaplan, who has volunteered with the Greater Philadelphia Chapter for nearly 20 years, is embarking on the 50 in 30 Challenge with a goal to raise over $ 100,000 for the Chapter’s mission to Strike Out ALS.
This is the biggest challenge EVER. Larry is traveling to every state across America in order to complete unique challenges across the country. In lieu of buckets of ice water, Larry will be filling his buckets with liquids local to each state, such as orange juice in Florida or maple syrup in Vermont. Larry’s first challenge will appropriately enough take place in the First State in Wilmington, Delaware on Monday, August 1. From there, he will begin driving to every state, plus flying to Hawaii and Alaska, to take on special challenge events.
Larry, his wife Jill, and his children Sydney and Riley have been recognized as top volunteers for their work with the Phillies Phestival, Hot Chocolate, the Ride to Defeat ALS, and more. Even with all of that, nothing compares to the 50 in 30 challenge starting on August 1! The ALS Community is excited to see what Larry will do throughout his journey as he shares videos and stories across thousands of miles to raise money and awareness for the ALS cause.
