TO: Members of the NDI Chairman's Council FROM: Ken Wollack and Shari Bryan RE: International Leaders Forum at the Democratic National Convention We are preparing feverishly for our 9th quadrennial International Leaders Forum (ILF) during the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, July 25-28. We are expecting nearly 400 international guests, including current and former heads of government, cabinet ministers, parliamentarians, political party leaders and Washington DC-based foreign ambassadors. The ILF program begins at a 6:00 pm reception Monday evening at the National Constitution Center, located on what is called "America's most historic square mile" because of its proximity to Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. During the Convention week, beginning on Tuesday, ILF participants will attend morning and afternoon panel discussions on U.S. politics, and on foreign and domestic issues that are framing the election campaign. These panels will be led and moderated by elected officials, journalists and opinion makers. Each evening during the week, we will host our guests at a fabulous venue at the Citizens Bank Park (the Phillies baseball stadium) where dinner will be served and where live television will broadcast the Convention proceedings. We will have access to the owners boxes and dining room, and private meeting space, which provide a perfect place for foreign leaders and diplomats to mingle with members of Congress, Party officials, journalists and others. The Park, which is adjacent to the Wells Fargo Center, will also be the staging ground for rotating our guests into the Convention itself. There will be two special events during the week -- the Wednesday luncheon honoring long-time Board member Geraldine Ferraro and our closing luncheon on Thursday. *We recognize that those connected to NDI who are attending the Convention may have other obligations but we hope that you will be able to attend as many ILF activities as possible -- particularly the opening reception on Monday evening, the Ferraro luncheon on Wednesday, the closing luncheon on Thursday and the the evening gatherings at the Phillies ball park. Needless to say, our high level panel discussions should also be of great interest. Your participation would mean a great deal to our international guests. You are also encouraged to invite your friends to these events. * *We are enclosing a draft agenda for the ILF and a preliminary listing of those attending. We are not distributing the list so we would ask that it be kept confidential. We expect about 50 additional participants to sign up in the next week or two.* *We look forward to seeing you in Philly where we will distribute your ILF credentials. We would be appreciative if you could RSVP to Katelyn Phillips (kphillips@ndi.org <kphillips@ndi.org>) as soon as possible.* Kenneth Wollack President National Democratic Institute 455 Massachusetts Ave., NW, 8th Floor Washington, DC 20001 202-728-5500 (Tel) 888-875-2887 (Fax) email: ken@ndi.org website: www.ndi.org ILF Agenda Public <https://docs.google.com/a/ndi.org/document/d/1l1_60u7eNM6yj0OlsYCrVit9J9FhHsRoK6V-dBJTYwg/edit?usp=drive_web> =8
