07/06/2016 07:46 AM EDT By Heather Caygle (hcaygle@politico.com or @heatherscope) With assistance from Daniel Lippman SANDERS HUDDLES WITH HOUSE DEMS- Sen. Bernie Sanders will cross the Capitol this morning, joining House Democrats for their weekly caucus huddle starting at 8:45 a.m. The official topic is Democrats' action on gun control but your Huddle host would be very surprised if talk of Sanders endorsing Hillary Clinton and party unity ahead of the convention doesn't also bubble up. Sanders, so far, has held off on endorsing his one-time rival and is still butting heads with other key Democrats over the party's platform, particularly when it comes to trade. Bloomberg: "While Sanders won many concessions in the draft platform released July 1 ...the document doesn't come out against the TPP. A platform opposing the trade deal would put the party in direct opposition of its leader, Obama." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=ab5235cc3e2b4b93943ae240ae0d7e2804f88a8b170067b8bbb789f5bee27a1a GUN CONTROL ACTION UP IN THE AIR-- House Republicans will also be meeting this morning, trying to figure out a way forward on the GOP's "anti-terrorism" package after leaders postponed an expected vote today following Freedom Caucus objections. "Dems do a 'sit-in' and get a response from our leadership, but the Republican majority wants amendments and we can't get any?" one Freedom Caucus member griped to Rachael. http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=ab5235cc3e2b4b9371fbb8030c0a9924162cb527c204febf557f732c8cb8f048 House Speaker Paul Ryan met with sit-in leaders, Reps. John Lewis and John Larson, for about 30 minutes Tuesday night but the GOP leader didn't indicate he was any closer to conceding to Dem demands for votes on their gun control measures-a plan to bar people on the terror watch list from buying guns and another proposal expanding background checks. What's next? GOP leaders insist there will be a vote on their package, which includes a Republican gun control measure already rejected in the Senate, sometime this week. Some House Democrats want members to seize control of the floor again if they don't get a vote on their proposals but others in the caucus are more hesitant, warning that would set a dangerous precedent. On the other side, some GOP lawmakers want Ryan to hand down tough punishment for Democrats' June floor protest. Ryan and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy have an afternoon meeting with the Sergeant at Arms to review Democrats' behavior. Pat Toomey, Seung Min takes a look at how the first-term senator has seized on the immigration fight as he battles to hold onto his seat: "Pat Toomey strode into the Senate in 2010 as a devout fiscal conservative and staunch advocate of small government - a message perfectly timed for the tea party wave that helped Republicans capture the House and make big inroads in the Senate." "Six years later, the Pennsylvania senator is locked in one of the tightest reelection races in the country. And with fiscal issues taking a back seat to immigration and terrorism in the year of Donald Trump, Toomey is tweaking his message to fit the mood." DEMS PUSH TO FREE C-SPAN CAMERAS-Some House Democrats want to change who controls the broadcast feeds in the chamber after Republicans shut off the cameras during Dems' daylong sit-in last month. A resolution introduced Tuesday night by Rep. Ami Bera would allow independent broadcasts of floor proceedings anytime a member is on the floor. He would later run for his party's presidential nomination (twice) and serve in the US Senate. Who was the governor and what was the state?
