Friday - November 12, 2010 Dear Sixth Grade Parents,First of all, Nurse Jasmin has asked me to write to let you know that she has begun her lessons on human growth and development with the sixth graders during the regularly scheduled PE periods. This is part of the 5/6 health curriculum that was developed during the summer of 2009 by Jasmin, Middle School Counselor Jack Huntington, and Coach Randall Goldsborough. Students who have had the class will bring home a letter and a list of discussion questions to talk over with parents, so she wants you to be on the lookout for that material. She will work with the students in groups over the course of the winter, so it will be January before all of the sixth graders have been exposed to this material. Please feel free to contact Nurse Jasmin directly if you have any questions.Second, I would like to address concerns about the recent email incident in sixth grade.SFS student accounts are set up to facilitate collaboration with other students about schoolwork and communication between teachers and students. They are not intended for personal email. The recent incident in sixth grade came to light because a teacher was unable to push a document out to students over email because the network was so busy with emails about a personal issue. It is particularly important that mass emails or “reply all” not be used; this is important for both network security and storage capacity. We have tried to clarify this expectation with our students in the wake of the recent incident. I apologize for any confusion about the Acceptable Use Agreement. If you have further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.Thank you –Sally Selby 3825 Wisconsin Avenue NW Washington, DC 20016 Tel: (202) 537-8100 Fax: (202) 537-8138
