As of the end of the day Wednesday, November 17, San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris (D) lead Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley (R) by over 31,000 votes with over 670,000 votes remaining uncounted. The lead in the vote count has see-sawed back and forth. Election day trending leaned Harris’s direction, though Cooley led at one point last week by over 50,000 votes. Though all 56 counties have at least partially reported their totals, only 15 have completed counting in an election in which over 9 million votes were cast. Counties have until Dec. 3 to certify their results and submit them to the Secretary of State meaning an answer may still be long off. Both Harris and Cooley have declared victory in the tight battle, though both appear to be holding off on further declarations. With Democratic counties like Los Angeles and San Francisco and Republican leaning counties like San Diego and Orange both still counting, the results could turn either way. In California, the candidate campaigns bear the expense of any recount requested, so recounts are likely to be targeted by county rather than a full-state recount. Both campaigns are gearing up for a recount if necessary, but until then wait on slow hand counting process across the state. It may be weeks before a victor is determined. We will continue to bring you updates as we get them. _Upcoming Events_ _Registration now open!_ _2010 DAGA Holiday Party _ _December 8, 2010_ _6:00 – 8:00 PM_ _Founding Farmers_ 1924 Pennsylvania Ave, NW Washington, DC DAGA will host our final event of 2010 at our Holiday Party on December 8.
