My sense is that he won't be willing to attend psychological counseling whatsoever. If he knew I was asking for your help he'd probably resent me and not talk to me for awhile. I sent my mom and Jesse a long email yesterday and then called them and asked them to read it and respond. They haven't done that yet. I feel like both should be involved as I sense you all do, but frankly I'm not sure what capacity they can serve. I really don't know what the answer is. I guess it's hard to know the answer if Micah doesn't even know the question: what is he doing in california, is he planning to live here, does he see school as something that interests him, on and on and on. I guess I'll see what my mom and Jesse say when the respond and get back to you. It seems to us that helping him find a job or to continue his education will not be sufficient unless the underlying cause of his problem is attended to. How willing is he to getting psychological/psychiatric counseling? I don't think Aunt Joy's trust is a good source of funding but I am sure other sources are available if he is ready to do some things which may initially be out of his comfort zone. Isaiah, what are your mother's thoughts on helping Micah? What level of involvement, if any, does Jessie want? Let me know when you want to set up a conference call...David From: Isaiah Sent: Monday, November 15, 2010 5:51 PM To: Ilene Schwerin Cc: schwerin@verizon.net Subject: Re: Brainstorm it's my email, had it for awhile now. Tonight is not going to work for me to discuss, got my own stuff, but I like the idea of a roundtable. I've sent my mom an email about Micah and will let you know what she says and what her involvement might be. thanks for thinking of my borther, Isaiah On Mon, Nov 15, 2010 at 2:14 PM, Ilene Schwerin <ileneschwerin@comcast.net> wrote: Hi I – whose email is knvbish@gmail.com – I want to be careful since I don’t know the email address. I also do not want to get in the middle of something since your Mother is here and I don’t know what her thoughts are? Maybe we all should sit down together – all being Micah, Jesse, your Mom, you, me and any of your aunts or uncles who may be able to offer jobs or thoughts about helping Micah. I do not know how Aunt Joys trust is set up so I can’t offer advice in that matter. Uncle David would know more about that. I think unless Micah is willing to participate we are all just banging our heads against the wall. I am more than happy to help but you can’t help someone who really isn’t willing to help themselves as well. Maybe there should be some conditions with Micah – he needs to see a therapists to help him, if we are willing to help financially. What are your Mothers thoughts or ideas about Micah? I know Jesse is busy with the baby now but he needs to be involved with his brother as well. His offer to have Micah stay with him – is that still on the table? Maybe Micah can’t refuse an offer like that because he wants to be near the water. Beggars can’t be choosy. Do you know what happened in the accident? Whose car was Micah in? Was it his drivers fault or were they hit. I am happy to help but we need to find a way to help Micah help himself. You are a wonderful caring brother but everything shouldn’t fall on you. Let’s talk tonight or tomorrow. I wanted to email you three and see what kind of advice/brainstorming you might be able to offer me. Yesterday, at about 1230pm, I dropped Micah off at the San Rafael Bus Transit center. His plan was to go up north to 'hopefully' stay at his friend's since I had set a boundry that he couldn't be on my couch longer then the weekend, and apparently it wasn't a good day, for him to go up and visit the baby and stay at Jesse's new home. At about 130pm I got a message from the San Rafael Police Department alerting me that Micah had been in a car accident. I rushed over the bridge fearing the worst. 'Luckily,' the extent of his injuries were a concussion, possible ligament damage to his knee, and he had cuts/abrasions on his face. All in all it was a good outcome as it could have been terrible. He got released the same day, yesterday, and spent the night at my house. Today my mom picked him up. So, trying to think about ways to help Micah succeed in life is sometimes hard, I can only imagine that it is just as hard, if not harder, for you three, since he burned you both after you had done nothing but been extremely generous towards him. I am fully aware that you all may have had enough with trying to find ways to help Micah. I wouldn't blame you if that was the case. I spoke with you a bit Ilene about ideas to help Micah get on his feet out here, job search, room search, etc, and I think those were all good ideas. I don't know what progress there would have been on those items had Micah not been in a serious injury, and now that he has, I can only imagine that him finding a job and a room will be that much harder. So, I'm very concerned. If yesterday's accident wasn't a sign that Micah needs extra support and guidence in his life I don't know what is. I'm a bit overwhelemed and scared for him to be honest. I haven't ever really felt this worried about Micah, maybe it's just because yesterday was traumatic but I am worried. None of you are Micah's parents or legal guardians, and all of you have gone the extra distance for Micah only to no doubt regret it. A simple answer might be to say, well, he should return to Massachusetts to my mom's house where at least he has a roof over his head. This may be what happens, but I don't think they are well suited to live together, and I don't think a winter on the East Coast will do anything but drive Micah towards more adngerous territory. I am doing my best to come up with ideas to help kickstart something for Micah. I believe Micah has $7-9,000 coming to him when he turns 25 from Aunt Joy, is that accurate? One idea I had was to see what the three of you thought about loaning Micah a monthly allowence from that money so he could get a room out here and work to get a job. At 25, the money Micah was supposed to recieve would then go to one of you instead based on the loan. I have no idea if that will just enable him to skate by and not take the initiative to obtain that for himself with out one of you stepping in. I'm just trying to think of ideas to help Micah start his life now, get something going, grow some sort of roots somewhere. I don't know where or what he'll be doing at twenty five, but after yesterday I'm feeling like when it comes to him today should be the focus, not tommorow. I don't want to be dramatic and say maybe there won't be a tomorrow, I don't honestly think that is the case, but I'm at a loss here. Micah doesn't have a clue about any of this, he'd probably get mad if he did, but I don't know what else to do other then throw ideas out, even if their off-kilter and not realistic. There you go, another fun one from our family. Isaiah
