Submitted Information: Name Gerald Prolman Email gerald@wildlifeworks.com Comment Please forward to Mr. R. Hunter Biden Dear Mr. Biden, Wildlife Works is a leading REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation) project development company. We are headquartered in San Francisco, CA and have been in business operating a for-profit, conservation development project in Kenya for the past 14 years. (Learn more at www.wildlifeworks.com and www.wildlifeworkscarbon.com) During this time the company pioneered a new business model that uses the power of the global marketplace to bring innovative economic solutions to wildlife conservation and forest protection in the developing world. The following YouTube link is a segment about us that aired on CNN International: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jc9MWLkLTP0 Recently, we entered into an agreement with BNP Paribas (see the press release below the signature) to provide Wildlife Works Carbon llc. with a $50m USD project finance facility. This transaction is of the largest REDD financing's to date. With this funding in place, Wildlife Works is pursuing additional REDD projects in Africa with an aim to; − Protect 5 Million Hectares of native forest − Generate 25M tonnes of CO2e annually − Create thousands of sustainable jobs for rural Africans and secure enduring markets for the products they produce. We currently have projects in scope that we project will generate several billion dollars of revenue over the life of the projects. We anticipate that the company will produce annual free cash flow of $50m over the next 20 years from the sale of Verified Emission Reductions (VER's) originating from our REDD projects. We are raising an additional $10m USD in equity at this time. Please let me know if you would like to discuss this further. The bank’s Carbon Finance business and Wildlife Works will develop a portfolio of large scale Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD) carbon projects in Africa. BNP Paribas will have the option to purchase avoided emission credits created from the portfolio. The facility provides funding for Wildlife Works’ efforts to source, develop, implement and manage REDD projects in Africa. With BNP Paribas’ backing, Wildlife Works now has the financial resources to support its efforts to protect endangered forests in the region and reinforces its ability to manage large-scale preservation projects. In addition BNP Paribas has the right to purchase 1.25 million tonnes of avoided emissions credits over the next five years from Wildlife Works’ Kasigau Corridor REDD project in Kenya. This project is East Africa’s first avoided deforestation project to receive validation under the Climate Community and Biodiversity Alliance standards, and is designed to bring substantial benefits to local communities in education and job creation, while protecting biodiversity at the same time. Mike Korchinsky, Founder and President of Wildlife Works, said: “We intend to develop a portfolio of valuable REDD+ projects, known as much for an uncompromising approach to biodiversity protection and community development as for strong financial returns. Through this agreement, African communities will benefit financially while safeguarding their environment for future generations.” Christian de Valle, Director, Environmental Markets in Commodity Derivatives at BNP Paribas, said: “We believe that REDD+ projects will have an important role in efforts to mitigate climate change as well as in the post-2012 carbon markets. We are very pleased to form a partnership with Wildlife Works and view the agreement as an important milestone in managing forest carbon.” “We are very excited that BNP Paribas has selected Wildlife Works Carbon as a partner in this game changing moment for the REDD industry”, says Colin Wiel, Co-Founder of Wildlife Works Carbon.
