Dear Board of Directors, In case you haven’t heard, I wanted to share the incredible news from yesterday – the MacArthur Foundation awarded fellow USGLC Board members, the International Rescue Committee and Sesame Workshop, the prestigious 100&Change grant<https://www.macfound.org/programs/100change/> for their incredible partnership to bring hope and learning to displaced Syrian children. On behalf of USGLC and our Board, a heartfelt congratulations to Sherrie Westin and David Miliband and their incredible colleagues for this recognition of their remarkable work. With the honor of receiving a $100 million grant, the transformational opportunities to help children in need is extraordinary. Congratulations. I’d also like to recognize Sean Callahan and Bill O’Keefe at Catholic Relief Services, who were among the finalists for this year’s award with their program to change how societies care for orphans. An extraordinary program and amazing recognition of their game-changing work. We should all be proud to count these leaders as friends and part of our USGLC family. Two other quick items of note: * I trust you have all been following the coverage of the Administration’s newly released National Security Strategy<https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/NSS-Final-12-18-2017-0905.pdf>, which lays down some important markers in our space. Watch for our analysis later today. * With tax reform essentially at the finish line, we’re closing following the budget deal negotiations – and also working hard to influence the FY19 budget request behind the scenes. I look forward to seeing you at our January Board Retreat. Please hold the morning of January 31 through mid-morning of February 1. We will update with our speaker line-up and full agenda after the first of the year. For any questions or to RSVP please contact Emily at ebenovitz@usglc.org<mailto:ebenovitz@usglc.org>. Wishing you all a very happy holiday and peaceful new year. Liz
