Media coverage of former Vice President Joe Biden’s weekend appearances in Ohio and Pennsylvania in support of Democrats running in Tuesday’s midterm elections focus heavily on his criticism of President Trump and the GOP. The Wilkes-Barre (PA) Citizens’ Voice <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=002-a58&t=c> (11/4, Mark) reports that Biden, rallying support for Sen. Bob Casey (D) and Rep. Matt Cartwright (D-PA) during a Sunday appearance in Yatesville, PA, delivered “a verbal whipping” to Trump and the GOP. Biden “criticized Trump’s remarks about a white supremacist rally in Virginia last year...as potential fuel to a fire of domestic terrorism.” Said Biden, “We watched neo-Nazis spew the same hateful bile we heard in the streets of Europe in the 1930s. The President assigned moral equivalence. The fruits came swiftly. Pipe bombs sent to me and some of my friends...that my granddaughter could have picked up.” The Wilkes-Barre (PA) Times Leader <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=003-cb3&t=c> (11/4, DuPuis) reports that Biden “offered an indelible message” during the Yatesville rally: Focus “on sending more Democrats to Congress in 2018. ‘The very character of our country is on the ballot, and all the world is looking,’ Biden said of Tuesday’s general election. ‘We are in a battle for America’s soul, and I really mean it,’ he added.” The Wilkes-Barre (PA) Times Leader <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=004-7c5&t=c> (11/4, O'Boyle) reports that in Yatesville, rally attendees “chanted ‘Run Joe Run’ when Biden, 75, took the stage, but the Scranton native didn’t take the bait, deciding that a decision on whether he will take on Trump in 2020 is yet to be made.” In an online article, WNEP-TV <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=005-3e6&t=c> Scranton, PA (11/4, Strub) reported, “Supporters hope Biden’s appearance will add excitement leading up to the hotly-contested midterm elections this week. ‘He was wonderful and inspirational, and I just want to tell everyone to please go out and vote,’ Tish Last of Wilkes-Barre said.” The Harrisburg (PA) Patriot-News <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=006-173&t=c> (11/4, Thompson) reports that during an appearance earlier in the day in Harrisburg, PA, Biden “did his best to nationalize” the PA10 House race, offering “a searing critique of...Trump and his GOP Congressional majorities. ‘We all know in our gut there’s something different about this year’s elections,’ Biden” said, adding, “This is the most important election you’ve ever been part of, no matter how old or how young you are.” Pastor George Scott (D) is battling Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) in the redrawn PA10. In an online article, WPMT-TV <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=007-ce4&t=c> Harrisburg, PA (11/4, Griffaton) reported that Biden delivered “a message about hate and the current state of politics. ‘This distorted world view is fueled online. It spread ladies and gentleman, and when the President of the United States Of America assigns, as he did, a moral equivalence between those dark forces and those opposing them, that puts fuel on the fire of intolerance and legitimates people who should never be heard,’ said Biden.” On its website, WHP-TV <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=008-a63&t=c> Harrisburg, PA (11/4, Cheung) quoted Biden as saying, “We have to reset the moral compass in the nation. It’s time to get up, try to remember who we are. This is the United States of America. We can take it back.” Meanwhile, the Washington Post <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=009-04a&t=c> (11/3, Wagner) reported that Biden and Trump “issued dueling warnings Saturday about the dire consequences of the other’s party emerging from Tuesday’s midterm elections with control of Congress.” Campaigning for Democrats in Parma Heights, Ohio, Biden “asserted that Republicans want to strip insurance coverage from people with preexisting health conditions and ‘eviscerate’ Medicare and Social Security.” He also cast “the election as a referendum on Trump’s leadership, relaying that foreign leaders with whom he continues to speak have been taken aback by many of the president’s actions.” Trump, during an appearance in Montana, “asserted that the real danger would be a takeover of Congress by ‘radical Democrats.’” The Cleveland Plain Dealer <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=00a-c26&t=c> (11/3, Richardson) reported that in his address, Biden “emphasized to the crowd of several hundred getting to the polls and voting by Tuesday. ‘We have to reset moral compasses,’ Biden said. ‘And we can do that on Tuesday. Because this year, I’m an optimist.’” Among those who appeared with Biden at Saturday’s rally were Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), who is being challenged by Rep. Jim Renacci (R-OH), and ex-federal consumer watchdog chief Richard Cordray (D), who is battling state Attorney General Mike DeWine (R) in the race to succeed term-limited Gov. John Kasich (R-OH). The Hill <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=016-eac&t=c> (11/2, Rodrigo) reported that while campaigning on Thursday for Michigan House hopeful Elissa Slotkin (D), former Vice President Joe Biden said “that the only thing that worried him about the pipe bombs sent to him” the previous “week was that his granddaughters might have picked them up.” Discussing “the explosives mailed to him and several other prominent Democratic figures and former government officials,” Biden said, “Only thing that worried me [about explosives] was whether my granddaughters would pick any of them up.” Biden Backs Florida State Senate Candidate Murphy. Florida Politics <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=017-bc7&t=c> (11/3, Wilson) reported that former Vice President Joe Biden on Saturday endorsed ex-Florida state Rep. Amanda Murphy (D) “in the hotly contested race for Senate District 16 just three days before Election Day.” In response, Murphy “thanked the former VP and possible 2020 presidential candidate for his support on social media, saying ‘our campaign is proud to announce Vice President Biden’s full support as we make our final case to the voters in Senate District 16.’” ABC News: Biden’s Stumping For Midterm Candidates May Presage A 2020 Run. In an online article, ABC News <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=018-d28&t=c> (11/4, Nagle) reported on former Vice President Joe Biden’s appearance last Tuesday in Iowa in support of state Rep. Abby Finkenauer (D), who is challenging IA1 Rep. Rod Blum (R), saying that Biden’s “support among his party’s base in [the] vulnerable [GOP] district was on full display – a foreshadowing, in some ways of the 2020 speculation that will kick into overdrive on Wednesday,” the day after the midterm elections. ABC News said that Biden recently “held rallies in Ohio, Wisconsin, along with his visit to Iowa, with scheduled stops in Illinois, Missouri, North Dakota and Michigan before the week was over.” ABC News added, “Though not a candidate ‘at this point,’ Biden has cultivated a campaign message centered on fighting for the middle class, which could be crucial to winning back blue-collar Democrats who voted for President Trump in 2016.” Some Democrats Worry About Age Of Party’s 2020 Frontrunners. The Hill <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=019-046&t=c> (11/4, Parnes) reported on “a question some Democrats are pondering as the 2020 presidential election inches closer: Can their party represent change when three of its top candidates are not only familiar faces, but people in their retirement years? Sen. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) will enter her 70s in June. Sen. Bernie Sanders (Vt.) is 77. Former Vice Joe Biden will turn 76 later this month.” The trio “have emerged in early polls as favorites to be the 2020 Democratic nominee. Some strategists say that might be a problem. ‘Democrats would be better off with a young candidate,’ said Democratic strategist Brad Bannon, who argued that an electorate that seems to want change might prefer someone from a younger generation.” However, “some Democrats say the 2020 election won’t be so much about age at all, particularly when Democrats will be competing to take on a 72-year-old in President Trump.” Bustle: Experts Say Biden-Obama Body Language Reveals Their Close Relationship. Bustle <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=01a-dea&t=c> (11/4, Sathish) reports on the relationship between former President Obama and former Vice President Joe Biden, saying, “The body language between” the pair “reaffirms just how close the two men are, experts say, especially because they challenge toxic masculinity and show more emotion than people typically expect to see from politicians.” Bustle says that “according to strategic communications consultant Ruth Sherman, using the word bromance to describe their relationship ‘spares men from being too emotional and intimate.’ Instead, Sherman [says] that Biden and Obama’s relationship came to resemble that between a father and son over the years.” Said Sherman, “They went beyond...a good working relationship. I certainly think they had one, but it went beyond that to include a very deep affection.” Leading the News Trump Campaigns In Georgia And Tennessee, Turns Focus To Senate Races. Media analyses and President Trump’s own words indicate that he is spending the final hours of the midterm election campaign focusing on maintaining or expanding GOP control of the Senate, and distancing himself from potential losses in the House. Even so, the first of his two rallies on Sunday was on behalf of a gubernatorial nominee, Brian Kemp of Georgia, before he moved on to Tennessee on behalf of GOP Senate nominee Rep. Marsha Blackburn. As he has at most of his recent rallies, the President focused his remarks on immigration and other messages intended to appeal to his base supporters. Tom Llamas opened ABC World News Tonight[image: Image removed by sender. Video] <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=01b-326&t=c> (11/4, lead story, 3:25) by reporting on “the final sprint into one of the fiercest and most consequential midterm elections in memory.” The President is “storming through the South in the final days, [with] so much riding on the line for him.” ABC’s Tara Palmeri: “The President making his final push, barnstorming in critical states with his greatest hits of attacks.” Trump: “We overcame the Democrats’ smear campaign and confirmed the newest member of the United States Supreme Court, Justice Brett Kavanaugh. So, if you want more caravans and you want more crime, vote Democrat. It’s very simple.” Palmeri: “That caravan is still 700 miles from the border, but the President is saying the migrants present an imminent threat. ... And in the Trump-friendly state of Georgia, voters say immigration is their top issue.” On the CBS Weekend News[image: Image removed by sender. Video] <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=01c-095&t=c> (11/4, lead story, 2:20, Quijano), Errol Barnett reported, “Trump has made immigration his closing argument for the GOP, continuing a nationwide blitz of rallies.” Polls show Kemp “is in a tight race with the Democratic nominee Stacey Abrams, who could become the first African-American female governor in American history. Today, Kemp’s state office announced a failed attempt to hack Georgia’s voter registration system and an investigation of the state’s Democratic party for possible cybercrimes. Abrams says it’s a last-ditch effort.” Kate Snow reported on NBC Nightly News[image: Image removed by sender. Video] <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=01d-1e7&t=c> (11/4, lead story, 2:30), “As of tonight, nearly 35 million voters have already cast their ballots. That’s a record number for early voting.” NBC’s Kelly O’Donnell: “President Trump putting some distance between himself and the fate of House Republicans as he left the White House.” Trump: “The difference is I can’t campaigned for all of those House members there’s so many of them.” O’Donnell: “But claiming he’s been an asset to Republican Senate races.” Trump: “I think I’ve made a difference of five or six or seven. That’s a big difference.” USA Today <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=01e-1d4&t=c> (11/4, Jackson, Fritze) reports that Trump “is campaigning for a Republican Congress like his presidency is at stake – and it may well be.” He said at a weekend rally in Florida, “If they take power, they will try to wipe away all that we’ve done.” The AP <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=01f-aac&t=c> (11/4, Miller, Colvin) similarly reports that Trump “appears to be distancing himself from the fate of House Republican candidates two days before Tuesday’s midterm elections.” Before leaving the White House early Sunday, he told reporters, “I think we’re going to do well in the House. But, as you know, my primary focus has been on the Senate, and I think we’re doing really well in the Senate.” Jonathan Karl said on ABC World News Tonight[image: Image removed by sender. Video] <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=020-f30&t=c> (11/4, story 3, 1:10, Llamas), “The President is focused almost entirely on the Senate. ... In the final days of the campaign, he’s only going to states that he won. ... In terms of the messaging, they are focused on getting Republicans, getting the base, to the polls, with a hard-right message of fear and loathing.” The New York Times <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=021-08a&t=c> (11/4, Shear) writes that Trump is campaigning “inside the presidential bubble,” where his supporters “repeat his tweets,” vent their “fury at Democrats and the news media using the president’s incendiary language,” and “harbor Mr. Trump’s conspiracy theories and echo his dark fear of immigrants.” The Washington Times <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=022-c84&t=c> (11/4, Howell) reports that Trump “is focusing on the threat of illegal immigration and bitter fight over Supreme Court Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh’s confirmation to rally red state voters against vulnerable Senate Democrats in 10 states that Mr. Trump won two years ago, even though his economic message is better suited toward winning centrist, suburban voters who will determine House control.” John King said on CNN’s Inside Politics[image: Image removed by sender. Video] <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=023-661&t=c> (11/4), “Midterm elections are always a referendum on the President. Some presidents sort of go into the shadows. This President has the decided, if it’s about me, let’s make it about me.” However, Politico <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=024-fa8&t=c> (11/4, Bade, Marinucci, Schor) reports that Republicans “are profoundly worried” that Trump “went overboard” on immigration, “and that it could cost them dearly in key suburban [House] districts, from Illinois to Texas. Many of them have cringed at Trump’s threats to unilaterally end birthright citizenship, as well as his recent racially-tinged ad suggesting that immigrants are police killers.” One “senior House Republican aide” said, “Trump has hijacked the election. This is not what we expected the final weeks of the election to focus on.” Politico’s Blake Hounshell tweeted <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=025-84d&t=c>, “House Republicans are in panic mode.” *Trump Says Abrams Would “Have Georgia Turn Into Venezuela.” *The Macon (GA) Telegraph <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=026-ca1&t=c> (11/4, Douglas, Williams) reports that Trump campaigned for Kemp in Macon, saying that a vote for Abrams “would take the state backward. ... The president’s message was simple: If you like me, you’ll like Kemp.” He also “rhetorically lashed out at Abrams, saying that she’ll bring a liberal agenda to the governor’s mansion that will harm the state’s economy and health care system.” Trump said, “You put Stacey in there and you’re going to have Georgia turn into Venezuela.” The Washington Post <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=027-cb9&t=c> (11/4, Gearan, Sonmez) reports that Trump also said that Abrams “would turn Georgia ‘into a giant sanctuary city for criminal aliens’ and he accused Democrats nationally of inviting illegal immigrants ‘to destroy our country, basically.’” WSB-TV[image: Image removed by sender. Video] <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=028-553&t=c> Atlanta (11/4, 11:03 p.m. EST) reported that “thousands gathered” to hear Trump “give his endorsement of Brian Kemp. ... Experts believe Trump’s endorsement of Kemp back in the spring helped him win the [GOP] runoff, and Kemp’s campaign is hoping that that will happen again.” WFXG-TV[image: Image removed by sender. Video] <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=029-889&t=c> Augusta, GA (11/4, 10:05 p.m. EST) reported Trump “spent most of the rally discussing national issues, but did bring it back to the state governor’s race several times.” WTOC-TV[image: Image removed by sender. Video] <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=02a-dfe&t=c> Savannah, GA (11/4, 6:33 p.m. EST) reported, “Both Kemp and the President expressed why they feel Abrams would not be a good fit for governor.” Trump: “You want to see Georgia prosperity end quickly? Vote for the Democrat. She’ll end it quickly.” The Atlanta Journal-Constitution <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=02b-dc6&t=c> (11/4, Hallerman, Bluestein) reports that both candidates “have drawn stars from their parties to boost their campaigns,” but Kemp “hopes he’ll get the biggest bump from Trump, whom his aides believe can motivate voters in a state he won by 5 percentage points – even if it means alienating independent voters who abhor the president.” The Washington Post <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=02c-114&t=c> (11/4, Rucker) reports on how the President has been “using Air Force One as a campaign prop” at stops like the one in Macon. Trump “has been using his plane with particularly high frequency in the home stretch of the midterm campaign.” Before the event, Trump tweeted <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=02d-b50&t=c> video of the line outside the venue – Breitbart <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=02e-e28&t=c> (11/4, Poor) reports that “several thousand lined up hours early” for the event – and then tweeted <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=02f-364&t=c> after the rally, “Thank you Macon, Georgia! Get out on Tuesday, November 6th and VOTE for @BrianKempGA as your next Governor to protect your jobs, defend your borders, fight for your values, and continue MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Kemp tweeted <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=030-814&t=c>, “I’ll work with @realDonaldTrump and @mike_pence to keep Georgia working. Kemp is also Georgia’s secretary of state, and he’s pushed voting restrictions which many Abrams supporters say are aimed at limiting turnout among African-American voters. Now today Kemp’s office announced an investigation into the state Democratic Party over an attempted hack of Georgia’s voting registration system. Democrats call it a political stunt.” The AP <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=033-3e7&t=c> (11/4, Barrow, Bajak, Nadler) reports that the statement from Kemp’s office “offered no evidence for the claim and didn’t specify allegations against Georgia Democrats. But it quickly became a last-minute flashpoint” in the campaign. USA Today <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=034-5b4&t=c> (11/4, Cummings) reports that a spokeswoman for the Secretary of State’s office “declined to comment on the inquiry but confirmed that the state Democratic Party was under investigation for ‘possible cybercrimes.’” Georgia Democratic Party Executive Director Rebecca DeHart “said Kemp’s ‘so-called investigation’ was ‘yet another abuse of power by an unethical Secretary of State.’” The New York Times <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=035-bd3&t=c> (11/4, Blinder, Fausset) says the investigation is “likely to further inflame the rancorous national debate over Republicans’ allegations of electoral fraud – many of which have proven to be baseless – and whether those claims are being used to unfairly harm the Democrats’ electoral chances.” Greg Bluestein of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution tweeted <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=036-1ed&t=c> that Trump made “no mention of Kemp’s decision to investigate alleged hacking by Georgia Democrats, an announcement Kemp made without disclosing any evidence.” The Washington Post <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=037-f22&t=c> (11/4, Selk, Williams, Gardner) reports on the investigation, and in a related item, the Washington Post <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=038-d3d&t=c> (11/4, Gardner) calls the controversy “the latest in a rash of concerns that have flared across the country, as candidates in both parties have traded accusations about threats to ballot integrity amid multiple reports about voting irregularities. ... There is no evidence of widespread voter fraud” in the US, and “study after study has shown that voter fraud is exceedingly rare.” Appearing on NBC’s Meet The Press[image: Image removed by sender. Some of that has been driven by the conversations of the voter suppression. One of the best ways to encourage people to use something is to tell them someone is trying to take it away.” The Washington Post <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=03a-f89&t=c> (11/4, Wootson) reports that Abrams was also targeted this weekend with “an 11th-hour infusion of good old-fashioned racism” in the form of a racist robocall featuring the voice of an Oprah Winfrey impersonator. The Abrams campaign “called the robocalls a desperate and ‘vile’ attempt to sway voters using ‘poisonous thinking.’” Former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates tweeted <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=03b-77f&t=c>, “Today President Trump brought his divisive scare tactics to a race already plagued by voter suppression and misuse of office. In an interview Sunday with Fox News Sunday[image: Image removed by sender. Video] <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=05a-923&t=c> (11/4), Secretary of State Pompeo discussed US-Saudi relations amid the growing controversy over journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s killing. Pompeo said, “The Saudis have acknowledged that this was a premeditated attack,” and the US has “begun to hold some officials accountable. We’ve revoked visas from 16 individuals that we have been able to identify that were in fact connected to that.” He reiterated that the US will continue to “hold all of those responsible for the murder of Jamaal Khashoggi accountable.” Pompeo stressed, however, that the US “will continue to work to maintain that important strategic relationship” with Saudi Arabia “while holding accountable those responsible for this atrocious death.” Pompeo also discussed the matter on CBS’ Face The Nation[image: Image removed by sender. Video] <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=05b-119&t=c> (11/4), saying, “I still have lots of work do to figure out the full range of persons that need to be held accountable. We’re working with the Turkish government, with the Saudi government, and with anyone else who has relevant facts for us to determine all of those who were responsible for this atrocious murder of Jamal Khashoggi, which the Saudis themselves now acknowledge was premeditated. We need to get to the bottom of it and find out who was responsible and hold them accountable and do all of this, John, while protecting the enormously important strategic interest that the United States maintains with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. We began our conversation about Iran, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been an important partner for the United States in attempting to change the behavior of the world’s largest state sponsor of terror from that Islamic republic.” Meanwhile, Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) told CBS’ Face The Nation[image: Image removed by sender. Video] <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=05c-8c3&t=c> (11/4), “I have not received that full briefing,” but “I believe that the evidence that the Turks have pointed out, that Khashoggi was brutally murdered in the Saudi consulate,” is true. Warner said he does not thing the incident would have occurred “under President Reagan, under President Bush or Obama or Clinton,” because the Saudis knew “America at that point stood for a free press and human rights. Again, the President’s words matter, and I think that you’re seeing our so-called allies take pretty unusual actions. I think Congress will act, whether it’s cut backs on arms sales, whether it’s looking in terms of some of our nuclear accords. I do think there is an opportunity here, and I commend Secretary Pompeo and Mattis for trying to urge the Saudi Arabians to end this brutal war in Yemen. And if there is an opportunity in this moment to get that done, that would be a step forward.” *WPost Analysis: Khashoggi Killing May Have Weakened MBS’ Ability To Improve Relations With Israel Further. *The Washington Post <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=05d-521&t=c> (11/4, Mekhennet) reports, “U.S. and Israeli officials have expressed concern that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman may have less leeway to pursue the gradual warming of relations between Israel and its Arab neighbors” because of the killing of Jamal Khashoggi and that “has implications for the Arab-Israeli peace package developed by the Trump administration.” Israel’s ambassador to the United States, Ron Dermer, said, “I think the administration, when they know all the facts, are going to have to decide, how can they on the one hand make clear that this action is unacceptable, but also not throw out the prince with the bathwater.” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “What happened in the Istanbul consulate was horrendous and it should be duly dealt with,” but, he added, “I say that it is very important for the stability of the world, of the region and of the world, that Saudi Arabia remain stable.” *Saudis Allegedly Follow Policy Of Forcibly Repatriating Dissidents. *The Washington Post <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=05e-6be&t=c> (11/4, Morris) reports the killing of Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul “has prompted fresh scrutiny of the kingdom’s pursuit of Saudi nationals abroad,” beginning with the forced repatriation and subsequent captivity of Faisal al Jarba “a leading sheikh in a large tribe,” who was seized by “Jordanian security officers” after having left Saudi Arabia for Jordan and “handed over to the Saudi authorities.” He is apparently being held, according to the Post, but “there have been no charges filed against” him, and “his family has received no proof that he is still alive.” The Post adds that recently the Saudi government has, in an effort to repatriate dissidents abroad “has tried to lure to them back or enlisted friendly regional governments to arrest them or even carried out brazen kidnappings in Europe.” *US Consulting Firms Continue Active In Saudi Arabia. *The New York Times <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=05f-706&t=c> (11/4, A1, Forsythe, Mazzetti, Hubbard, Bogdanich) reports that Saudi Arabia this spring “signed an agreement with Booz Allen Hamilton...to help train the kingdom’s growing ranks of cyberfighters.” And, adds the Times, while the murder of Jamal Khashoggi has “prompted investors from around the globe to distance themselves from the Saudi government, Booz Allen and its competitors McKinsey & Company and Boston Consulting Group have stayed close after playing critical roles in Prince Mohammed’s drive to consolidate power.” The companies “have earned hundreds of millions of dollars altogether on projects in Saudi Arabia.” The Times describes some of the firms’ efforts including training the Saudi navy, identifying dissidents, and numerous other matters. *Prince Al-Waleed Discusses Saudi Modernization Plan. *In an exclusive interview with Fox News Sunday Morning Futures[image: Image removed by sender. Prince Al-Waleed said, “I assure it [the modernization plan] is for real and all that he [MBS] is doing is changing Saudi Arabia in a very revolutionary manner, socially, economically, financially. Saudi Arabia right now is seeing huge development and changes and as you know, happily so, I do not represent the government so I’ll be speaking to you freely and openly and independently as usual.” He also said Khashoggi “was not only my friend. He was working with me.” He added that “Jamal was a reformer, and what took place in that Saudi consolate was clearly horrific, unspeakable, and tragic, and I believe that Saudi Arabia is going to get to the bottom of it.” He stressed, however, that “you have to give it some time” until the kingdom’s “investigation is made public.” In the second part of the interview on Fox News Sunday Morning Futures[image: Image removed by sender. I’m very confident that the sanctions that will be reimposed this Monday, not only the crude oil sanctions, the financial sanctions that are being put in place by the Treasury Department, over 600 designations of individuals and companies in Iran will have the intended effect to alter the Iranian regime’s behavior. That’s our expectation, it’s the reason for President Trump’s policy.” Pompeo added, “Watch the Iranians. That’s who really understands the importance and the impact of the effort that we are undertaking. An enormous impact already we are working diligently to make sure we support the Iranian people and that our activity towards ensuring that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s maligned behavior is changed.” The Washington Post <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=063-f99&t=c> (11/4, Morello) reports Pompeo told Wallace that the President was “putting the world on notice that the terror regime which threatens Israel through Iranian funding of Lebanese Hezbollah, that the terror regime that attempted to conduct an assassination in Denmark over that past few weeks, that the terror regime that continues to fund Houthis launching missiles into Riyadh and into Dubai, that’s going to stop. That behavior must change, and sanctions of the United States will be reimposed at midnight tonight.” He also “defended the administration’s decision to grant temporary waivers on oil sanctions to eight nations, including some of Iran’s biggest oil customers.” While Pompeo has not publicly identified the eight countries, “Turkey has said it has received notice and is among them,” and “China, South Korea, Japan and India also are expected to get waivers.” Pompeo “said all had made significant reductions in their Iran oil purchases already but ‘need a little bit more time to get to zero.’” The New York Post <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=064-6a1&t=c> (11/4, Schwab) reports that three “Republican senators – Sens. Tom Cotton of Arkansas, Marco Rubio of Florida and Ted Cruz of Texas – have said the new sanctions aren’t tough enough and have drafted legislation that would require the Trump administration to demand that Iran be suspended from the international bank transfer system.” Asked by Wallace about the criticism, Pompeo answered, “The Iranian banks that engage in sanctionable behavior will be sanctioned by the Department of Treasury, period, full stop.” Politico <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=065-d32&t=c> (11/4, Beavers) reports Pompeo stressed, “No one’s going to argue that Secretary Pompeo isn’t tough on Iran,” and “no one is going to argue that President Trump isn’t doing the same.” The Washington Times <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=066-08b&t=c> (11/4, Muñoz) reports Pompeo also “issued a thinly veiled warning to Russia and China putting both countries on notice that it will suffer the consequences if they continue to purchase Iranian oil,” although he “refused to comment on what specific actions the Trump administration may take against Moscow and Beijing, should both countries decide to continue to do business with Tehran.” Bloomberg News <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=067-569&t=c> (11/4, Brody) reports that Pompeo “said hundreds of businesses have left Iran since Trump withdrew from the nuclear deal, and any European companies doing business there won’t do business with the U.S.” Pompeo told CBS’ Face The Nation[image: Image removed by sender. Video] <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=068-8f3&t=c> (11/4), “European companies will not be permitted to do business with the United States and with Iran. Frankly, since May, since the President’s announcement of withdrawal from the ill-fated agreement, European companies have fled Iran in great numbers, hundreds of businesses have departed Iran. The whole world understands that these sanctions are real, that they are important, that they drive the Iranian people’s opportunity to make changes in Iran that they so desperately want and stop Iran from having the wealth and money they need to continue to foment terror around the world.” Pompeo’s remarks came as “thousands” of Iranians rallied “with anti-American signs and chants, marking the anniversary of the Iran hostage crisis back in 1979,” NBC Nightly News[image: Image removed by sender. Reuters <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=06a-c07&t=c> (11/4, Hafezi) reports that the demonstrations “are staged on the embassy takeover anniversary every year,” but “rancour is especially strong this time following Trump’s decision in May to withdraw from world powers’ 2015 nuclear deal with Iran and reimpose sanctions on Tehran.” Meanwhile, Iran’s “military said it would launch two days of air defense drills on Monday and assured Iranians that it could neutralize any threats, the state news agency IRNA reported.” IRNA quoted coordinating military officer Habibollah Sayyari as stating, “We can assure our people that the enemy will not be able to carry out its threats against our country.” Also on Sunday, the CBS Weekend News[image: Image removed by sender. The Journal says an early test of the Administration’s maximum pressure campaign will be in Syria, where US officials hope the sanctions will force Iran to declare its mission accomplished and withdraw. Asked about the sanctions on Fox News Sunday Morning Futures[image: Image removed by sender. Video] <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=06e-903&t=c> (11/4), Florida gubernatorial candidate Ron DeSantis said, “The President is absolutely right, the sanctions are the right move, ever since he nixed the Iran deal, the Iranian regime is on the defensive, the economy is hurting this will continue to weaken them, and that’s exactly what you need to do, they’re the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism they want to annihilate Israel, they’re hostile to us, to their core, and this is the right policy and I support the President on it 100 percent.” In a Wall Street Journal <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=06f-c57&t=c> (11/4, Perry) op-ed, Energy Secretary Perry says the reimposed sanctions clearly convey to Tehran that it must change its menacing behavior or suffer the consequences. Perry says the sanctions will hit Iran’s energy sector particularly hard, but because the world’s leading producers have taken anticipatory actions, global energy markets will be minimally impacted by the move. A Wall Street Journal <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=070-3dd&t=c> (11/4) editorial dismisses domestic and foreign criticism of the Administration’s approach, saying that the State and Treasury Departments are imposing the new sanctions in a way that is diplomatic, yet still pressures the regime. The Journal predicts some retaliation from Iran or its terror proxies, and cautions that European leaders would do well to rethink their resistance to the Administration’s call to renegotiate the nuclear deal. *Block: Improved Relations Between Israel, Gulf Arabs Due To Common Fear Of Iran. *Joshua S. Block, CEO of the Israel Project, writes in the Wall Street Journal <http://mailview.bulletinintelligence.com/mailview.aspx?m=2018110501biden&r=email-9d5c&l=071-db1&t=c> (11/4, Block), on recent public acknowledgements of relations between Israel and the Gulf Arab states, citing a tour by Israel’s culture and sports minister, Miri Regev, of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, and the participation by Israeli athletes under Israel’s flag at the International Judo Federation’s Abu Dhabi Grand Slam, as well as the recent visit by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Oman. In addition, the foreign ministers of Oman, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia, have all recently called for normalizing relations with Israel. Block argues that the most important reason for this is the common perception of the threat from Iran. Pompeo Discusses Upcoming Meeting With North Korean Counterpart.
