We hope you have received your invitation to formally welcome our new Head of School, Tom Farquhar. The reception is on Sunday, Sept. 12 from 4 – 6 pm in Sledge Garden on the DC campus. A short program will begin at 4:30 pm. We hope that all of you will attend to extend a warm welcome and celebrate his arrival. Important! We will be conducting a test of both Equake (the School's Emergency Listserv) and SFSNewsflash (important updates often grade or division specific) on Wednesday, Sept. 15. Each fall, each family is automatically subscribed using the emails submitted on the Parent Portal. If you would like to unsubscribe or subscribe additional e-mail addresses please read more. If you do not receive an Equake and a SFSNewsflash on Sept. 15 and you believe you should have been subscribed, please subscribe following the directions. NEXT-TO-NEW SALE
Sidwell’s hugely popular sale of quality used items is back and we need your help to make this event more successful than ever! The Next-to-New Sale will be held October 21-23 and is part of the Events for Student Scholarships program that raises money for financial aid. All proceeds directly benefit student financial aid. If you have questions about the sale, please contact the Events for Student Scholarships office at (202) 537-8110 or email events@sidwell.edu.
We need your donations!
Collection times at the Wisconsin Avenue campus will run September 8 to October 13 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. We will also have a limited number of collection days at the lower school—look for updates in the newsletter. Please click here for a list of items we accept and do not accept.
We need volunteers!
There are volunteer jobs for everyone at this event! Both men and women are needed for weekday and weekend shifts. You can spend as much time helping as you would like—even a few hours is a huge help! We are looking for volunteers to assist with collecting, sorting and pricing donations, setting-up for the sale, cashiering, cleaning-up, publicizing the event, community out-reach, etc. We are also looking for “Section Heads” to take responsibility for a particular category of donations and oversee its organization. If you are interested in learning more about these positions, please contact Lauren Mulcahy, Director of Special Events at mulcahyL@sidwell.edu or at 202-537-8110.
This is a great way to meet members of the SFS community! Friends and extended family are also welcome to get involved.

How to Submit an Article
Send submissions to PA.MSNewsletter@sidwell.edu by 2 p.m. Monday. Please reference "Newsletter Submission" and the publish date(s) in the subject line. Items should be submitted as text in the body of the e-mail. PLEASE do not include any formatting such as indents, bullets, boldface or all-caps. Please keep submissions succinct. If you have a form or flyer to include with your submission, please send it as a PDF attachment to your email. Receipt of your submissions will be confirmed as soon as possible.
Note concerning the School Calendar: the calendar entries that appear in the right column of each Newsletter are automatically generated by the official school calendar and are not subject to editing by the Newsletter Editors. All changes or additions to the school calendar must be made through the school scheduling office, reachable at: scheduling@sidwell.edu.

The Parents Association newsletters are a forum for communication among parents and provide announcements concerning School or PA events or information related to a School or PA event.
