Dear Friends, We hope that everyone is enjoying the last few days of summer! We are serving as room parents for the 4X classroom this year. As we get ready to start the school year, we want to take care of some administrative business and let you know about some important dates that are coming up in September. Please take a look at the attached class list and let us know whether or not the information that we have for you is correct. In addition, please make sure that the phone numbers and e-mail addresses that we included are the ones that you want on this list. If, during the school year, any of your contact information changes, please let one of us know so that we may update the list. We plan to use e-mail as our primary method of communication for class business. If you are unable to access e-mail regularly, however, please let us know, and we will make alternative arrangements. Please note that e-mail addresses may only be used for class business; the school’s e-mail policy can be found on the SFS Parents Association website. There are a few important dates coming up in September: · New Students Orientation – Friday, September 3, 9-10am (PKers and new students only) · First day of school – Tuesday, September 7 (dismissal at 2pm!) · Grade-wide Family Picnics at the Lower School – You will hear more about this as the date approaches. The date for our grade-wide 4th grade picnic is September 15, 5-7pm. · Back-to-School Night -- This parents-only meeting is an important opportunity to meet with your child’s teachers to learn about what will happen in the classroom this year. Back-to-school night for 4th grade will be during the evening on September 21. Over the course of the school year, we will ask you to volunteer your time and talents for various classroom projects and events, such as field trips, class plays, vegetable cutting for Martha’s Table, parent potluck dinners, community service outings, and so forth. There are also many school-wide volunteer opportunities, including homecoming, the book fair, and delivering leftovers to Bethesda Cares. We want to include as many parents as possible in all events and will make every effort to accommodate any scheduling conflicts or other problems as they arise. Finally, this is a big year for our lower school graduating class so you will also be hearing a lot throughout the year from our wonderful 4th grade reps, Kathleen Biden, Susanna D’Andrea, Denielle Pemberton- Heard, Lisa Pickrum, and Eva Xanthos. They will be coordinating all of the grade wide activities and there will be many opportunities to help out with some great once-in-a lifetime events! If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to working with you in the year ahead. We will see you all next week!
