[ http://bit.ly/1TxLZ8I ] Smiles “Think I better wait till tomorrow…” You may have to wait a bit, but John Mayer is going to blow up the rock world again and soon. Right now, as we discussed last night, he’s on tour with the Dead & Company making magical music. Mayer is a multifaceted artist and the evolution of his music has been fascinating to watch. The popular wisdom was that Mayer seemed stuck in the mellow adult rock genre where he recorded hit after radio friendly hit. He seemed so perfect that he actually annoyed music fans and followers of pop culture. Then, in 2005, he formed one of the great power trios in rock music—the John Mayer Trio. With superstar bassist Pino Palladino (who tours with The Who) and funky drummer Steve Jordan (of Keith Richards and Xpensive Winos fame), Mayer put out “Try,” a live album. “Try” is a remarkable, gritty, funky, soulful masterpiece. The Trio’s live performances were legendary. But just as fast as the band appeared, they disappeared. Here’s what they looked and sounded like doing the Jimi Hendrix cover “Wait till tomorrow." [ http://bit.ly/1TxLBHg ] Now that you’re smiling, here’s another smile: after 10 years apart, the Trio went back into the studio together in mid-January. We may not need to wait much longer… Fasten your seatbelts. Feedback I always welcome and benefit from your feedback. Please drop me a line at aschwartz@csis.org. Need help finding us?
