Unless you want to try for the sometime the week before Labor Day and cut your time a little short at the Lake (assuming you don't), you really can't do it until the week of the 19th or 26th. Also depends on how long you want to go for. Assuming you really need a whole week including travel time.

Labor Day week (Sept. 5-9): OK if you are OK missing first day or school and Finny's B-day (also assume that is not an option).
Sept. 12-16: Doesn't work. Latter part of the week you are in California.
Sept. 19-23: This is open and works well but you said you'd rather not go right after coming back from CA.
Sept. 26-30: This week also works fine - don't know if it is too late - we tentatively said we'd host a book party for Gabriel and Esteban this week, but that's not locked in and no reason to avoid this week if it works best.
