Middle & Upper School Parents/Students -
Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, Middle and Upper School students will have the opportunity of taking one-on-one, weekly instrumental music lessons on the Wisconsin Avenue campus.  Private instrument lessons give students an opportunity to develop/enhance skill on a musical instrument, with the goal of eventually participating in a Middle and/or Upper School ensemble. Lessons also provide the essential, instrument-specific focus that an ensemble experience can’t always address. Sidwell students currently participating in a school instrumental ensemble are strongly encouraged to take private lessons. Lessons provide the invaluable support for the young musician, while challenging the advanced student in need of more demanding repertoire and technique.
In the first year of the program, 30, 45 or 60-minute lessons will be offered for the following instruments:
Winds                   (Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Oboe, Bassoon, etc.)
Brass                     (Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, etc.)
Strings                  (Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass)
Space/time permitting – Guitar, Drum Set, Jazz Guitar/Bass, Jazz Piano

NOTE: The Pre-Registration process will help the school determine the demand for particular instruments.  You are not officially registering and no payment is required at this time.  In late August, billing and official registration will be set-up through Auxiliary Programs.  Parents will receive instructions (via email) from Auxiliary Programs at that time.  Once the overall lesson demand is determined, parents/students will be contacted by the individual lesson teacher and/or lesson coordinator for scheduling.
