In a relatively rare interview California Attorney General Kamala Harris spoke with NPR earlier this week from the NAACP Convention on civil rights, and getting smart about crime. General Harris presents a passionate argument for changing the way we force our candidates to talk about crime, as either being soft or tough and encouraging people to instead ask them to be smart about our crime problem. During the interview she proposes new ways to handle first time offenders and the importance of trying to prevent crime, instead of just reacting to it.
