Met with Virginia re CAF. All is well. Writing a letter to Amtrak to formally notify them of 96 day delay. Thinks they may be a little disappointed but says these things are normal for these contracts and this isn't excessive. Boardman stopped by Elmira facilty unannounced (must have been up visiting family) but Virginia hears it went well. He didn't get to see any work being done because they had started early and finished early due to heat and he came in afternoon. Got letter back from FTA saying no to their piggybacking appeal on Houston. Went to talk to Mica's office who seems to want to be very helpful and recommended they write to IG's office which they are doing. Meanwhile FTA is being helpful to CAF on Miami and has agreed to pursue their appeal there and wrote to Miami to hold off on anything while they review CAF's appeal. Thought is FTA may be being helpful on Miami to throw them a bone for Houston. I think so too. The two letters re Houston and Miami from FTA were sent on the same day. Otherwise we are all good. Virginia is starting to focus on Amtrak/Midwest and is going to see ILL DOT in September and may want to get together in September to discuss. Eric D.
