Please join us for an informative presentation and lively discussion of the Super Committee process, its role and responsibilities in the upcoming deficit reduction process, as well as the sequestration enforcement mechanism should the Super Committee in the event it is unable to advance a deficit reduction package. Specifically, the session will discuss the anticipated implementation of the BCA, with a particular focus on— discretionary spending and the effect of the BCA on the FY 2012 and FY 2013 appropriations process, including implications for a possible continuing resolution (CR) or omnibus appropriation bill prior to the beginning of the new fiscal year on October 1 the Super Committee – its membership, governance, deficit reduction goals, statutory powers and policy mandates possible policy options that the Super Committee may examine and approaches to deficit reduction that the Super Committee may choose to pursue the “baseline” scorekeeping issue and its potential impact on the Super Committee’s deliberations the issue of “extraneous” matters and their potential consideration by the Super Committee the role of the committees of jurisdiction in the Super Committee process, as well as the role of the Administration the potential impact of the recent S&P credit rating downgrade on the Super Committee’s deliberations sequestration – what it is and how it could be triggered; which spending is exposed and what is protected; and circumstances that could give rise to a full or “mini” sequester defense – the potential implications of a sequester for defense spending vs. “security” spending health – the potential impact of a sequester on health providers and beneficiaries taxes and revenues – the potential implications for tax reform, “loophole closers” and the tax “extenders”, as well as other provisions expiring at the end of 2011 new initiatives – the potential implications for any new legislative initiatives this fall, such as a possible “jobs” bill or economic recovery initiative.
