Industries are constantly changing, and workplaces need to adapt to those needs. This week, we announced our partnership with PREIT to launch a retail incubator inside Cherry Hill Mall. Our Chief of Real Estate, Jerre Riggs, explains why a revolution is coming to a mall near you.

As the malls of today transform into diversified developments of the future, forward-thinking mall owners must think more like city planners. In the same manner that urban areas have been reinvented, so will traditional malls. As a result, malls are incorporating hotels, residential units, bowling alleys, cinemas, higher-end restaurants, fitness facilities, and other leisure amenities into these shopping destinations. These proactive actions are a good start but they are still not enough to fill the void.

We at 1776 believe that the demand is still there for this gathering place – it just needs to be repurposed for the shifting economy. This is why we are excited to partner with one of our country’s leading mall operators, PREIT, to open a 1776 Retail Incubator at the Cherry Hill Mall in southern New Jersey.

Philly-based ponzmo (https://ponzmo.com/) wants dog owners to rethink how and what they feed their dog. ponzmo makes fresh cooked, all natural, vet formulated farm-to-dog bowl cuisine, which they deliver frozen and pre-portioned based on a dog’s unique calorie needs. After launching in September in Philly, ponzmo is now shipping to several states, developing a third recipe and about to release ponzmo-flavored gelato in a partnership with an Italian trained gelato maker. ponzmo donates part of each batch and some of profits to several no-kill animal shelters in the Philly area.

** Apply to the 1776 Accelerator: Getting Startups Investor Ready!

Be among the first to apply for a three-month program to work with experts from across the region, as well as mentors and staff from 1776 to take your company beyond concept to investor ready. Deadline is August 24th, when we will select up to ten startups to participate in the exclusive three-month incubator.

Our first cohort will take place at the 1776 DC campus and will target those companies focused on a regulated marketspace. Each week, 1776 leadership and EIRs will work directly with the cohort to ensure successful progression and positioning as they work to take their companies beyond concept to being investor ready. 1776 will also pair each of the accelerator companies with the best strategic 1776 mentor from our global network for the entire three month program.
