FROM THE NO. 3 REPUBLICAN IN AMERICA ... SPEAKER PAUL RYAN (R-Wis.) on TRUMP and RUSSIA ... "I want to be as clear as I can to the world and the country. We stand by our NATO allies and all those countries who are facing Russia aggression. How many times have I stood up here and told you what I think about Vladimir Putin? Vladimir Putin does not share our interests, Vladimir Putin does not share our values. ...

"They did interfere in our elections. It's really clear. There should be no doubt about that. It's also clear it did not have a material effect on our elections. But as a result of that we passed tough sanctions on Russia so that we can hold them accountable. I understand the desire and the need to have good relations. That's perfectly reasonable. But Russia is a menacing government that does not share our interest and it does not share our values."

-- JAKE ASKED WHAT CONGRESS CAN DO AS A CO-EQUAL BRANCH: "Here's what we've already done and what we can continue to do, which is to put sanctions on Russia. You just saw the indictments from the special counsel. Those GRU officers -- I've already seen the intelligence -- they were the people that conducted this cyberattack on our elections. We've already put in place sanctions. If [committees] think that there are other sanctions we have not yet placed upon Russia, I am more than happy to consider those."

SUGGESTION LIST ... FROM DEMS TO THE GOP: HERE ARE SOME POPULAR IDEAS ON WHAT THEY THINK WOULD STOP TRUMP (most of these have been enumerated by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and other top Democrats) ...

-- PASS A BILL to protect Bob Mueller, and get Russia to extradite the 12 intelligence officers indicted last week.

-- DEMAND TRUMP'S TAX RETURNS. Dems say this will force Trump to show if Russians are paying him. Ways and Means -- which is meeting with Trump at 2 p.m. -- could do this unilaterally.

-- SANCTIONS. Increase them, which Ryan appeared to say he's open to. There is some effort in the House to provide waivers to allies who have bought arms from Russia. Dems are pushing to strip that.

-- HOLD HEARINGS about the the White House's preparation for the Helsinki summit.

SCHUMER, on Twitter at 11:28 a.m. (@SenSchumer): ".@realDonaldTrump's behavior has everyone in America scratching their heads. There is no rational explanation for it, so millions of Americans are left wondering if Putin indeed has something over the president. ...
