Today's Playbook Power Briefing presented by the Alzheimer's Association By JAKE SHERMAN (sherman@politico.com; @JakeSherman), ANNA PALMER (anna@politico.com; @apalmerdc), DANIEL LIPPMAN (daniel@politico.com; @dlippman), AKELA LACY (alacy@politico.com; @akela_lacy) and ELI OKUN (eokun@politico.com; @eliokun) FROM THE NO. 3 REPUBLICAN IN AMERICA ... SPEAKER PAUL RYAN (R-Wis.) on TRUMP and RUSSIA ... "I want to be as clear as I can to the world and the country. We stand by our NATO allies and all those countries who are facing Russia aggression. How many times have I stood up here and told you what I think about Vladimir Putin? Vladimir Putin does not share our interests, Vladimir Putin does not share our values. ... "They did interfere in our elections. It's really clear. There should be no doubt about that. It's also clear it did not have a material effect on our elections. But as a result of that we passed tough sanctions on Russia so that we can hold them accountable. I understand the desire and the need to have good relations. That's perfectly reasonable. But Russia is a menacing government that does not share our interest and it does not share our values." -- JAKE ASKED WHAT CONGRESS CAN DO AS A CO-EQUAL BRANCH: "Here's what we've already done and what we can continue to do, which is to put sanctions on Russia. You just saw the indictments from the special counsel. Those GRU officers -- I've already seen the intelligence -- they were the people that conducted this cyberattack on our elections. We've already put in place sanctions. If [committees] think that there are other sanctions we have not yet placed upon Russia, I am more than happy to consider those." SUGGESTION LIST ... FROM DEMS TO THE GOP: HERE ARE SOME POPULAR IDEAS ON WHAT THEY THINK WOULD STOP TRUMP (most of these have been enumerated by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and other top Democrats) ... -- PASS A BILL to protect Bob Mueller, and get Russia to extradite the 12 intelligence officers indicted last week. -- DEMAND TRUMP'S TAX RETURNS. Dems say this will force Trump to show if Russians are paying him. Ways and Means -- which is meeting with Trump at 2 p.m. -- could do this unilaterally. -- SANCTIONS. Increase them, which Ryan appeared to say he's open to. There is some effort in the House to provide waivers to allies who have bought arms from Russia. Dems are pushing to strip that. -- HOLD HEARINGS about the the White House's preparation for the Helsinki summit. SCHUMER, on Twitter at 11:28 a.m. (@SenSchumer): ".@realDonaldTrump's behavior has everyone in America scratching their heads. There is no rational explanation for it, so millions of Americans are left wondering if Putin indeed has something over the president. ... If there's another credible explanation for why he acted the way he did, it would behoove @realDonaldTrump to let the American people in on it." -- STAN COLLENDER: "House, Senate GOP Should Use This Year's Appropriations To Stop Trump On Russia": http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=b425431016054b452fcd8e549c0f961b07bf0670143adc42178cb4d10e513eec1dba8c9c2051eab8f1e603382bcf0bf5 ON THE PRESIDENT'S MIND -- @realDonald Trump at 10:39 a.m.: "The economy of the United States is stronger than ever before!" ... ... at 10:33 a.m.: "Thank you @RandPaul. 'The President has gone through a year and a half of totally partisan investigations -- what's he supposed to think?'" ... at 10:22 a.m.: "While I had a great meeting with NATO, raising vast amounts of money, I had an even better meeting with Vladimir Putin of Russia. Sadly, it is not being reported that way -- the Fake News is going Crazy!" ... at 9:53 a.m.: "I had a great meeting with NATO. They have paid $33 Billion more and will pay hundreds of Billions of Dollars more in the future, only because of me. NATO was weak, but now it is strong again (bad for Russia). The media only says I was rude to leaders, never mentions the money FROM THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN ... BRAD PARSCALE (@parscale): "As Dems and RINOs see their swamp grip on America fail they have moved to straight lies and fear mongering. Collusion is FAKE! World has never been safer and the economy never better. They want cold wars and economic failure so they can have their power back. @realDonaldTrump". COMING ATTRACTIONS ... AP'S KEN THOMAS (@KThomasDC): "President Trump will discuss his trip to Helsinki before reporters during a 2 p.m. meeting w/members of Congress, per @PressSec" -- ALONGSIDE TRUMP will be Illinois Rep. Peter Roskam, who is running in a tight race in the Chicago suburbs; Rep. Diane Black of Tennessee, who is running for governor; and Rep. Jim Renacci, who is running for the Senate seat occupied by Ohio Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown. Good Tuesday afternoon. SENATE DEMOCRATS released a staff diversity survey ... SEN. ANGUS KING (I-VT.) with 5 percent, SEN. JOE MANCHIN (W.VA.) with 8 percent and SEN. JON TESTER (MONT.) with 7 percent had the lowest percent of non-white staffers. SENS. CORY BOOKER (N.J.), DOUG JONES (ALA.) and CHRIS VAN HOLLEN (MD.) tie with the most black staff at 33 percent. ... "Republicans, who presided over a 2011 gerrymander that appeared to turn the district safely red, concede that Democrats have put it in play. A Republican super PAC has been on the air for five weeks; both Vice President Pence and House Speaker Paul D. Ryan have flown in to help Balderson raise money and wake up voters." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=b425431016054b45a74e4f0f2aa260fb5265eb5c1ad39284ad6fe5d17235c03c8d619b6ed10901c957ae22a2475dd4a4 -- "Poll shows Trump endorsement gives DeSantis an edge in Florida governor's race," by Florida Playbooker Marc Caputo: "Rep. "The statement contradicts what the company told [journalists at] the New York Times in February. At that time, a spokesperson said ES&S had never installed pcAnywhere on any election system it sold. "[Sen. And nearly a quarter of all registered voters have served as an unpaid caregiver to a friend or relative with the disease. Alzheimer's remains the only leading cause of death in the United States that cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed - yet. Only medical breakthroughs can change that. The Alzheimer's Association is committed to supporting advancements in research that will lead to the first Alzheimer's survivor.
