Blinders takes an innovative approach to its soundtrack. Despite being set in the early 20 ^th century, the music is mostly British and American modern rock. The on screen alchemy of the sound and vision is often breathtaking. The show has memorable characters and narratives. It’s not quite groundbreaking like The Sopranos and The Wire were, but it is indeed a significant progression in the gangster genre. I’ve been binge watching and am midway through season 3 (there are 4 seasons so far and they are working on a 5^th.) In addition to being a great binge, it has underscored for me that rock and roll is not dead. Take the Blinders featured band Royal Blood, which formed in Brighton, UK in 2013. The Blood is an innovative two piece (bass guitar and drums) that has obvious influences like Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, White Stripes and Red Hot Chili Peppers. It’s amazing the way lead vocalist/bass player Mike Kerr uses pedal effects to make his bass guitar sound like a six string guitar.
