Dear Members of the Truman Center and Truman Project Boards, It was wonderful to see so many of you at the meeting and TruCon18 last month! I wanted to take a moment to provide an update to the fundraisning discussion we had during the meeting. Happily, we received word from the Freidenrich Estate that they have agreed to provide Truman with a $500,000 contribution this month. This is great news, however this will be their final contribution to Truman as John’s family has made the decision to focus their philanthropy on organizations local to the Bay Area. We are extremely grateful for the family’s longstanding support, and are moving forward with identifying alternate sources for funding to replace his annual gift. We are grateful for the offers to help with our fundraising efforts from many of you. Our fundraising strategy moving forward is to continue focusing on deepening relationships with our current donors and building relationships with prospects in each of the following three categories: *Foundations *– Truman has been successful in maintaining a longstanding relationship with a handful of foundations. We will work to deepen and expand our relationships with large foundations, building clear lines of multi-year programming supported by long-term grants. We have a specific eye towards securing general support grants that will allow the organization to build and strengthen its infrastructure, however, this type of support is the most difficult to secure. *Corporations* – Truman continues to strengthen its corporate giving program. Historically we have focused our efforts around our two annual events – TruCon and the Truman Awards Dinner. Additionally, we are exploring ways to enhance our sponsorship benefits package attract corporate sponsorship through member engagement, policy discussions, and training. *Individuals* – Traditionally, the best source of unrestricted funding comes from individual. That being said, cultivating individuals is less linear and can take longer to build deep relationships. Truman’s strategy is to continue cultivating new donors through small events, such as Jeffersonian Dinners and salons in key cities, and we will continue to explore ways in which we can make inroads with the more politically oriented donors to support Truman’s C4 activities. Truman’s Development Director, Mark Cunningham, will follow up with you on our current top tier prospects, end of year projections and other development related updates. Mark is happy to schedule one-on-one conversations with you to discuss how you can engage with these efforts in the coming months. As always, thank you for your leadership and support, and I look forward to working with each of you.
