Runde ------------------------------------------------------------ ** August 22, 2018 ------------------------------------------------------------ The CSIS Project on Prosperity and Development (PPD) would like to share a new article published in The Hill by Daniel F. Runde, "State's 'Swagger' will be a Limp if OMB's Rescission Goes Through (https://csis.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=833ec271d60c6750d9c3baaac&id=64d0c980d8&e=e55aaf27de) " The Trump administration will pay a high and long-term geostrategic price for a short-term budget "win" for the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) who has suggested a major rescission of foreign assistance funding. The OMB has long signaled its views on foreign assistance with two previously proposed budget cuts that cut foreign assistance by 30 percent. The reported request for rescission of foreign assistance would not help balance the budget as intended, rather it would lead to more severe consequences for U.S. foreign policy. A rescission would have significant implications to achieving the Trump Administration's national security and foreign policy priorities. Furthermore, it would reduce Congress' trust in the administration, limit the ability to execute foreign aid programs to protect national security interests, and impact future Executive-Congressional relations. https://csis.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=833ec271d60c6750d9c3baaac&id=4832cec8a8&e=e55aaf27de https://csis.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=833ec271d60c6750d9c3baaac&id=85ac454cb6&e=e55aaf27de mailto:ppd@csis.org https://csis.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=833ec271d60c6750d9c3baaac&id=bd56dbbcbc&e=e55aaf27de Click to subscribe (https://csis.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=833ec271d60c6750d9c3baaac&id=1e9ba5e908&e=e55aaf27de) to our international development podcast, featuring CSIS Senior Vice President and PPD Director Daniel F.
