You know the old adage “if you fail to plan you plan to fail?” It’s a truism for board and committee meetings.

In order to structure your board for success this school year, we suggest that you focus on three foundational elements:

Roles & Responsibilities

Governance is a team sport, which means it's important for everyone on the team to understand exactly which position they’re playing and what it will take for them to be successful.

Active and Engaged Committees

Regardless of where your organization is in its lifecycle, active and engaged committees allow your team’s experts to weigh in on complex issues and present strategic questions to the full board for further direction. This is a critical step in shifting your board to be more strategic and less reactive.
