Roger Daltrey turned 72 this month, Pete Townshend is 70. But these eminent rockers of yore can still bring it like no one else. It surely helps that they are propelled by one of rock’s best rhythm sections, Zak Starkey (Ringo’s son, Keith Moon’s mentee and godson) on drums and the great Pino Paladino on bass. My friend Parker Simes’s brother, Frank, is the band’s musical director and he has tapped the very source of Daltrey and Townshend’s eternal youth—the powerful angst that has always lurked behind their greatest tunes. Parker tells me that last night’s show at Boston’s TD Garden was superb. Last Friday night, The Who performed live on Jimmy Fallon’s show. It was their first appearance on US late-night television in almost a decade. And, with this heart-pounding rendition of “Who are You [ http://www.rollingstone.com/tv/news/watch-the-who-bring-rousing-who-are-you-to-tonight-show-20160305 ] ” the band absolutely roared.
