The new school year is in full swing, making September a great time to focus on building sustainable board operations. Doing so will help you to have more efficient meetings, enabling your board to focus on its priorities and goals, working toward your board’s vision of success.

How to you craft these sustainable processes? There are three keys:

Institutional Memory

- Share meeting packets at least a week prior to the meeting to give board members enough time to read the agenda and supporting materials thoroughly and prepare to be engaged in the discussions.

- Schedule all your board and committee meetings for the year and plan enough time for complex questions to be debated at the committee level before presenting strategically framed items to the full board for further direction.
