Dr. Michael Butler shares why it’s important to emphasize values as much as expertise when hiring Having trouble viewing this email?View it in your browser (https://mailchi.mp/1776/1776-insights-news-h7sk756yt8-622481?e=2b70ec7055) ** A bimonthly newsletter on innovation in complex industries and our startup communities ------------------------------------------------------------ 1776_SF_profile_square_copy.png Building the right team is a critical component for any company but especially startups and early scale-up companies. Dr. Michael Butler, founder of Chip Diagnostics, shares why he puts as much emphasis on personal values as experience or technical expertise when making those critical first hires. It has been my experience that success is as rooted in the personal values held by the people in the team as it is in their experience or technical expertise. This is because it is the values that people hold that are more likely to bind them together in the common challenging and creative cause. When people are bound by common values they have the potential to be truly creative; this may allow the company to amount to much more than the sum of its parts. Ultimately that’s a choice you’ll need to make for yourself. In difficult, creative environments where problems must be overcome daily, I’ve found that people who are naturally engaging, inquisitive, truth-seeking, open-minded, flexible, and outcome-oriented work well together.
